Right, a conversation about calling callers dumb at the Score has nothing to do with Bernstein

You're right. I forgot Dan programmed the White Sox postgame show.

My mistake.

No, he doesnt. He just does a certain style of show that has been copied by most of the younger guys at the station.

Oh afternoon show?

Mike Murphy and Mike North's voices kept me away from the SCORE for a long time

I started listening to AM radio on the 4th day of MJH. 2002, I believe.

Yep. Afternoon drive.

I posted about it in another thread, but the reason the Score was so popular was they had something for everyone. Meatballs were courted and given air time during Jiggetts and North while Mac and Boers would call people idiots.

Try and attract the North Halsted crowd with his talk of soaping up in the shower with Nate Oliver.

I don't think that's correct. They made everything some type of gay reference but they didn't call people idiots.

Danny Mac was definitely an angrier person back then and wasn't shy about mixing it up with callers he disagreed with but the show didn't have the 'we're smart, you're dumb you need to think like us or you're an idiot' vibe that the B&B show has.

I don't know. I'm old and watch the same Matlock episode every day because I keep forgetting the plot but as I recall it, HFC had a much more buddy at the bar argument/conversational tone to their callers.

They may have ended calls after the argument by calling them idiots on occasion but they didn't do so to try to establish themselves on some type of intellectual higher ground.

I agree with that Keyser. B&B have definitely upped the level of animosity.

I like it.

You have to remember your early Score. It was only on until six during the summer as they shut down at sunset.

Once I was at Comiskey and I saw some good looking chick in a shirt that said "I'd Neal for Cotts." Her boyfriend seemed to be pretty damn cool about the whole thing, despite people asking for pictures and the such.

What if the Sox had benched Dunn the game before? That late inning homer may have been the biggest hit of the game. As Rongey pointed out yesterday, he sat most of the game. We know that Dunn has the ability to hit much better than he is doing and at this point its all mental. Sitting Dunn on the bench would not help this.
rogers park bryan wrote:
And what if you sat him in one of the 30 games he's failed in a big situation?

This is silly.

I like it.

He is more likely to have a positive impact than a negative one. He can have an immediate impact and win a game for you, he is not nearly as likely to lose it for you. Its not that black or white as he will either win you the game or lose it for you. The strike outs hurt, but a big home run is going to have a larger impact than a single strikeout. If you sit him in the game, you cannot assume his replacement would automatically have hit successfully.

He has always struck out alot, however he has also been considered a very good player. This is because he has the ability to hit lots of homer runs and lots of RBIs, plus he walks alot. This didn't change because he put on a black and grey uniform.

Benching Adam Dunn is silly and yes its moronic. Sitting him on the bench during a period of mental struggling is not a good idea. His track record suggests he will start playing better. Sitting him on the bench only further delays this. He has been a disappointment, but not bench worthy. He is a veteran player, he doesn't need to be "taught a lesson". He knows he is not doing well, being punished isn't going to "give him a break", its just going to eat away at him.

I am newer here and I don't post all that often, but it appears that you let your dislike of a sports radio talkshow host play far to large of an impact on your thought process. It is moronic to sit a player that still drives in runs and hits homeruns while struggling. Who are you going to replace him with?

HossasSlavicRage the official Farmer and DJ apologist.

The fact Ranger told me they get along does not make it correct. If you have not noticed, Rangers says a few things that many here and callers might not agree with? I would not question him, as I fear his wrath and the subsequent pain he might inflict upon me in person.

Plus I have my own sources telling me it is not even close to a harmonious relationship, but 2 guys that like the job they have and want to keep it as neither guy made tons of cash during their careers. DJ made more than Farmer did and should be OK if he lived a normal life.

Even Frank, your ultimate Sox fan would agree (I think) that the broadcast portrays 2 guys that do not get along, so if they actually are friendly (which I don't believe) then this might be the worst broadcasting team ever. Additionally, for a marketing manager to allow this broadcast to continue like this is one of the great mistakes in pro sports.

However, the reason Farmer is on the air is simple. Jerry thinks he is hysterical. So, Farmer appeals to 1 guy and good for him, it's the one right guy he needs to keep a job.

Bernstein has a very short memory...Albert Belle put up some monster numbers for the White Sox for 2 seasons...AFTER THE WHITE SOX WERE SAFELY OUT OF THE RACE.....
Adam THE OAF's numbers will mean JACKSHIT if the Sox are wallowing under .500.

Bingo.

Bernsie loves Dunn because he is the prototypical SABR fanboys wet dream. Through him Bernsie can "prove" that K's don't matter, that a "kiddie" stat like BA is meaningless and on and on. But as you said AgriBob it isn't just the numbers....its when said SABR dream players actually produces those numbers. Who gives a shit if Dunn hits a bunch of homeruns if they come when the Sox are down 6-1 in the 8th or back 15 games in July or when the Sox are up 10-1 and he goes 1/5 with 4 k's and a solo shot when the Sox are up big.

It isn't quite as black and white as Bernsie likes to think it is.

And I wonder what Bernsie thinks of Mark Reynolds....is it ok that he bats .198 with 200+ K's but hits 35+ HR's?

And Bernsie hates fantasy sports so it strikes me as a bit strange when he solely worships numbers in baseball. And don't give me the crap about him saying he does the "eye" test as well....bullshit, that's a cunning ruse.

Sorry for not believing that they "hate" each other. Like I said, they are not "best friends" but they do not "hate" each other. "Hate" means that you cannot stand to be in the same room with somebody, they both made enough money and could find another job in order to get away from somebody they hate. Like I said, its a working relationship. I think you are pushing it.

Yes, it isn't a very good broadcast, its awkward as hell. Me liking the White Sox has nothing to do with what I think about the TV or Radio broadcasts. I do however think that calling it "one of the greatest mistakes in pro sports" is also pushing it.

If that makes me an apologist than so be it.

So only sabermetrics people think Dunn has had a good career? Like I said, he has to start producing soon or its going to be a waste. I never said that he is having a good year, but he has a great track record. Most people think he is a very good hitter and has had a good career so far.

As for the rest of the stuff, okay you do not like Bernstein, he is not the only one who is surprised by Dunn's bad start. Most people were pretty pumped about the Dunn signing and thought it was a good move.

Anyone with ears listening to a White Sox game on the radio should be able to tell that Farmer & DJ have zero chemistry & that there are a lot of comments that are followed up with a no response. Add Ranger to the mix & you have the worst pre, post. & game announcing team that I have ever heard.

So a guy can't have a good season on a bad team? It means "JACKSHIT" if an MVP doesn't lead his team to the playoffs? I know that the one big goal is the win the World Series, but one guy can only do so much in baseball.

Case and point:
Image

Now, I know the Sox aren't as bad as the '87 Cubs overall were but still. Does not take away from the fact that Dawson had an awesome year.

Get Hall of Famer Andre Dawson's picture and name away from ANYTHING regarding Adam The Oaf Dunn!!!!!!!!
Put Crime Dog McGriff in a Cubs uniform up there!!!!!
My point since the day the Sox signed THE OAF, is that baseball numbers junkie Bernstein fawned all over Dunn.....and Bernstein's sabermetric visions of grandeur are bullshit.

Not in third person.
