Yes they could have

They were down 5 with the ball in the 4th quarter against the Colts. They were down a touchdown with the ball against the packers.

They were one fluke play away from leading or tying those games.

The better question is "if the Bears qb's didn't have really bad games in those two games could they have won 2 SBs?"

They should have beaten the Colts and they should have beaten the Packers in week 17 last year.

If they made last year's SB, I don't think they would have beaten the Steelers.

dont let the fact that the Colts were good and that the Packers were good get in the way of your "should haves".

They were both better teams...but both games were winnable late in the 4th for the Bears.

If they had, the five year stretch would have represented the absolute nadir of modern pro (NFL) football. Those two teams would have then been the absolute worst champs ever...maybe excepting the Jets.

i was roughly ~6-12 years old during the ass-end of the ditka regime... is it true that he really fucked up when he decided to gaga over doug flutie, dividing the lockerroom and leading to mcmahon leaving? i seem to remember ditka's handling of doug flutie being some sort of a problem for the late 80s beloved.

oh yeah, and being 30 years old and all, i was raised that i should blame the lack of a repeat title in '86 on forrest gregg and that one dude on the packers who bodyslammed mcmahon after a play was over, thus ending his season and consequently the bears' season.
