You may be on to something there...

but she's been employed for a decade being as big as a house

I haven't seen her lately as I have despised the scene and craft services hog since she was an overacting little shit on Cosby.

What was your favorite moment of the Maya Gavin era on The Score?

When I called into her show really drunk last month and couldn't remember the Bears backup running back last year was Chester Taylor. I had him on my fantasy team too!

I think the chance Shark is referring to is a chance of succeeding at the Score.

The gave her the absolutely worst shift in the world. Did she even have a local lead-in? 2am-4am is just awful. The callers at that hour are the worst. It makes the usual Les crowd seem intelligent.

I listened a few times and her pace and timing wasn't good for overnight. THese knobs who call in wanted to ramble on about total nonsense and she is trying to move the show on. She had a decent radio voice and demeanor. Seemed comfy on the air. Content wise? If they can give Larry a show, Maya deserves one.

Yeah, but Grobstein does like five or six hours a night, and it's between Usually Abbatacola and Mully & Hanley. The Maya Gavin show was bookended by Sporting News Radio, I'm pretty sure. It'd be SNR from, say, 10 or 11 to 2, then her for two hours, then back to SNR. That paints the mental picture of, like, someone commandeering an empty radio station while a night janitor looks on. Ivan's right. She was set up to fail. I'm not saying this because I was rooting for her--I think I heard all of one segment of her show, and it wasn't particularly good, like, at all--but because it's plain as day that the whole thing was not a good-faith effort to develop new on-air talent.

The premise of the contest was stupid to begin with--we're looking for someone to do a couple hours of overnight on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Why not just give the winner the whole overnight shift instead of just carving a spot out of SNR? Why not give Saturday late evenings when the Sox don't play? Why not Sunday afternoons? Because it would piss off the clubhouse to take those sweet Sundays-3-to-5 plums away from Mike Esposito?

If Mitch disliked her so much that he supposedly atoned for his error by burying her in satellite-bookended overnights, why did he let her win in the first place? I know Bernstein supposedly fawned over her at the auditions, but contrary to popular belief, Bernstein does not run the station, and in fact probably couldn't give less of a shit about PepsiMAX SCORE Search 2: The Half-Assed Search For A Half-Assed Overnight Host, so Mitch should've seen to it that someone better won.

Wild-Eyed Sinicalypsical Conspiracy Theory: this whole song and dance was just an effort to keep the equal-opportunity wolves from the door because there aren't many women of color on the radio doing sports or, as a matter of fact, much of anything, not even in a market as large and heterogeneous as ol' number 3. The "equal opportunity wolves" care about minorities & Women, not minority Women. You have to be able to prove that you have given opportunities to QUALIFIED females & minorities, but not minority females. The Score shouldn't have any EEOC concerns since they have numerous minorities & a female on the air. If Mitch was under pressure to hire either a minority or a female, he sure as hell wouldn't run a contest in hopes that either one would win.

So, Maya Gavin wasn't given a chance
Taco Bell has some new tasty reheated chicken
Larry Holmes 27 minutes shows are excellent

Things I continue to learn from Krazy Ivan

The answer is 99% no to a local lead-in, Quad. There was ONLY 1 time when Maya Gavin had a local lead-in, and that was due to transmitter maintenance when she followed a Joe Ostrowski/Connor McKnight show on a late Saturday night. Maya's show was sandwiched in between what used to be called Sporting News Radio, based in Los Angeles, and now known as Yahoo! Sports Radio, which I believe is based in Houston. The SCORE had aired SNR's syndicated sports talk from Midnight-2a Sundays, followed by Maya's show from 2-4a and more Sporting News/Yahoo! Sports Radio from 4-6a.

I was told by a friend that does work for the Score that she won because she was a woman... They had pressure because of the number of women working at ESPN and used the contest to make it look legit. I'm surprised she lasted as long as she did...

Bumping this because I thought I had a good post upthread. Also, interesting one-post wonder coming in late.
