Sometimes when I'm feeling overwhelmed and down in the dumps, I like to think back to the music from a certain time and place in my life. More often than not, I find myself being drawn to the Slow Jam/R&B music of the Early to Mid '90's, stuff like Vanessa Williams or Toni Braxton, Luther Vandross, Soul for Real, etc. It reminds me that what seemed like ominous concerns to me at that time in my youth turned out to be just part of the learning experiences associated with growing up, and that, just maybe, I'm still growing and learning. Then I imagine a fat Samoan lady with a ukelele singing "I'm So Into You" by SWV to Krazy Ivan, and I can't even remember what I was upset about.
