Pierce stopped Kobe, but was not the best player on the team that year. KG was Defensive player of the year (again) & was pretty high in MVP voting iirc. KG (oddly for him) deferred to Pierce in many interviews, given Pierce's long tenure. There is little doubt who the focal point of that team was....unless a best supporting actor trophy was getting handed out.

KG set the tone for that team defensively and was as important as Pierce to the title but Pierce kicked his game into extra gear in the Finals against Kobe. I don't believe KG was more or less important than Pierce that season.

Not even close. Shaq on the '05-'06 Heat teams works much better as an analogy. Transformed the team and the mindset and had a bigger impact than his numbers suggested.

My point is Pierce never used his fat ass to his advantage. He settles for jump shots too often. He bitches about a no call when he should run back on defense.
