More points as a Celtic than Larry Bird. What a career. What a transformation from the PP/Antoine days til now. I have too many favorite NBA players to name over the past 15 years but he would be on the short list.

Aside from the Oscar winning performance where he went from Crippled to dunking in 10 minutes, Ive always loved his game.

If KG never comes to lead Boston, does this thread get started?

No.

Pierce likely wins a championship with the Mavericks.

I agree, and Allen was a big part of this also.

Agreed. Pierce was the best player on the team in 2008 and outclassed Kobe in the Finals.

Dirk got all the props he was due last June.

Pierce stopped Kobe, but was not the best player on the team that year. KG was Defensive player of the year (again) & was pretty high in MVP voting iirc. KG (oddly for him) deferred to Pierce in many interviews, given Pierce's long tenure. There is little doubt who the focal point of that team was....unless a best supporting actor trophy was getting handed out.

You're like Jimmy talking about the democrats. Your Garnett hate is off the charts.

KG set the tone for that team defensively and was as important as Pierce to the title but Pierce kicked his game into extra gear in the Finals against Kobe. I don't believe KG was more or less important than Pierce that season.

Not even close. Shaq on the '05-'06 Heat teams works much better as an analogy. Transformed the team and the mindset and had a bigger impact than his numbers suggested.

On Sportscenter they had a "Is Pierce the greatest Celtic ever" segment. Is ESPN actively trying to become a self-parody? Some of the analysts had to be embarrassed to have to actually explain why they think Bird or Russell was better.

Paul Pierce is a scorer. A lot of guys in the league do what he does. He's a taller fatter jason terry. And he's half the player Bird was.

Huh? Him and Jason Terry are nothing alike.

I was thinking a shorter, darker George Muresan.

I think Pierce has to win more championships to be greater than Bird.

I think it's a little too late for him to have a shot at being better than one of the five best players ever.

My point is Pierce never used his fat ass to his advantage. He settles for jump shots too often. He bitches about a no call when he should run back on defense.

I'm waiting to see if you think he's better than Bird.

Your reading comprehension needs considerable work if you can't tell what I think of Bird in this thread.

And the "settles for jump shots too often" statement shows that you haven't been watching basketball long. Apparently you didn't catch those playoff games from the Antoine days where Pierce was shooting 16+ FTs on several occasions.
