I mean, wouldn't you already have a damn good idea of what the alternative to a guy before you fire him?

They did have a good idea. He decided he liked the winters in Richmond, VA better than central Illinois.

I guess they didn't have a good idea then. So like I'se sayin der...

So VCU's Shaka Smart has said no and I didn't think Butler's Brad Stevens was a serious candidate from the getgo. When Illinois does settle on someone, I bet there's going to be a degree of outrage for who ends up getting the basketball coach as Tim Beckman is already getting. He hasn't coached his first football game, and Beckman's getting ripped left & right!

Can I get to the Get Go from Jump Street? Maybe west?

There is no shame about not getting Brad Stevens. He's turned down a bunch of offers. I don't know if he thinks he is ready for a bigger gig. He saw what happened to Lickliter. I would think the only realistic places he would go now are either Purdue or Indiana because of his familiarity with recruiting Indiana. I'm not sure if he would have taken the Purdue job last year if it opened if Painter left and Cuonzo Martin still went to Tennessee.

I've read Tennessee's Cuonzo Martin is still on AD Mike Thomas' wish list. Again, I don't know if Martin's interested in leaving...

One year too late on that one, and also I have a hard time believing that he'd want to play Painter twice a year. Both Weber and Painter were very open about how they didn't enjoy that.

Also, I think he has a giant buy-out.

Cuonzo has a $2.6 million buyout.

The Lou Ferrigno-looking Bruce Pearl? Isn't he already in hot water for what he did at Tennessee?

What's wrong with Tommy Amaker? He's already had good Big Ten success. He's put together a good program at Harvard. I would think he'd be a hot name again.

Well, he was 108-84 at Michigan. It's certainly not bad. And he' s 92-55 at Harvard which has never been a power in the Ivy League.

True, but he was a pretty young guy then. I like him a lot better than a bunch of guys being mentioned, e.g. Reggie Theus, Leonard Hamilton.

Reggie Theus...Still very much in play, even though he hasn't coached anywhere since 2007.
