Well, it's hard to keep track of the conversations of 30k people at a ballpark but I'd wager that Harry is likely rarely mentioned hardly at all now. They've got the light thing wtih his face on it, but I don't think a single Cubs fan would say "Harry" when asked what "defines the Cubs as an organization?".

I'll end it with this. I think there is something special about the Cubs and it's unique to pretty much any other team out there. There is a reason for that. You can debate all you want with me how Harry Caray doesn't matter, or that the stadium doesn't matter because people loved the Polo Grounds and because San Francisco has a cool stadium. That's cool. I have to accept your opinion. Unfortunately, that means that I no longer consider the Cubs to be any more special than a team like the Indians or the Mets.

So you guys win, the Cubs are nothing special. What defines them is an old stadium with ivy and good bars, three very good players(Santo, Banks, Sosa), and losing 2 games to the Marlins in 2003.

I believe that if I had come to this thread and said the Cubs are not special and basically just like any other team I would have gotten a reaction calling me a Cubs hater and just jealous.

I also think most Cubs fans think of the Cubs and being a Cubs fan as a unique and special experience. You obviously disagree.

Disco Demolition is not some sort of glorious celebration on White Sox history either. Its notable, but it destroyed the field as caused the Sox to forfeit a game.

And they apparently threw a World Series. Not so sweet either, but its all accurate.

Rick, the main point of your original post seemed to be: The play on the field doesnt mattter, they lose a lot, they had a good announcer who died 14 years ago and thats pretty cool.
