I don't feel like I'm in the middle of Beirut in any other sports venue in Chicago, but for some reason the Sox think it's good business to make their off-duty cop security obnoxiously obvious. It's the most fan-unfriendly thing I can think of.
yeah. I went from a partial season ticket holder to not going to one game in 20 years. They can go to hell as far as I'm concerned.
Sometimes I feel like because there was one Ligue, they think the safe and smart way to go is to assume every fan is a Ligue. It's like if one guy shoplifted from your store and after that incident you followed every other customer around. I just don't think it's good business. Don't treat me like a fuckin' Ligue.
I'm sure there are more drunken incidents at Wrigley. I know they have to have as much security as the Sox- or at least I would assume they do- but it's much less obtrusive. I wouldn't have been nearly as angry if a cute young girl had been at the entrance to the Bullpen and smiled and said, "I'm sorry, we're closing early tonight." I still would have found it idiotic, but it probably wouldn't have enraged me.
You know, when I was much younger I got pulled over by an Evanston cop. My plate had expired the day before. I didn't have my insurance card with me. And I wasn't wearing my seatbelt. The cop didn't really want to write me tickets but he said, "Dude, you've just got too many things wrong." That's how I felt at that game last night. If it had been 80 degrees and sunny, I wouldn't have been angry about getting skunked by Hochevar and being refused entrance to the bar. If the Sox had pounded that turd like they should, I wouldn't have been pissed about not getting in and the rainy walk to Shinnick's would have been fine. If the Sox had been more fan-friendly, I wouldn't have walked away sour after a shitty loss in the rain. There were just too many things wrong.
But I'm going to end up going to 25-30 games. They've got me. They need to worry about the guy who comes once or twice a year and try to get him to come more. They can look at their 20,000 a night attendance and blame the fans or the economy or whatever makes them feel better. I'm just telling them how at least some fans who go to a lot of games and spend a lot of money in their park really feel.
