Hit for average last year. Doesn't steal a base. Good fielder. Never played at major league level and only a few at basts at AAA. He's 25 but he looks like he's 18.

Well, I don't know what to do...Watching Beckham & Morel bat these days is like a root canal! I know it's early, but neither look like they belong!

I suggest you turn off the TV and read a book.

Well, there are other things worth watching. If I wanted Jason Hervey on "The Wonder Years" & Scott Bakula on "Quantum Leap", I'd be watching a classic TV channel. One look at Beckham & Morel, and I have '80s TV flashbacks if you did a Luke Stuckmeyer-like "Luke-a-Like" of these two side by side.

Extra base hits: In the 60's every year, probably close to 70.
Runs and RBI's: 90-110 every year.
Solid defense at 2B. Above average.
Multiple All-Star appearances.
Team leader type, possible captain.
If he does all this for 15 years, Hall of Fame.

So yeah, I wouldn't trade him.

This thread is a great example of what I am talking about. It was created after Beckham was already on the major league roster.

Well, and a Cubs fan created it.

This thread was a legitimate question. Not trolling at all.

Im sorry that after 70 games, Sox fans thought this guy was on his way to multiple allstar games and MVP's.

Agreed on the numbers.....

What the hell was I thinking, Chris?

Who said multiple MVP's? Given his first 70 games, to think he would have been an All Star was not crazy at all.

I think its pretty clear that the previous coaching regime did more harm to Beckham than good.

I saw zero quotes

20 HRs and 75-80 RBI is good, but not MVP worthy.

Not likely. He's at 9 and 36 now at the half point. Consider the grind of August and September, and he probably will finish somewhere around 15 and 60. Not bad, but not great.

He was terrible in April/March. If he plays like he has the last two months he should get both of those things.

Also, when you posted this topic Beckham already had over 400 big league plate appearances with an OPS over .800. If Rizzo is still over 1.000 after 500 at-bats, I won't look at comparisons to Babe Ruth as quite so insane.

You guys are missing the point. That realistic projection was Mocked for being too low.

So the point is that a guy was expected to be better than his first half season of play?

400 big league at bats!!! Wow. Thats nearly 70% of one season!

and dont reply with the Babe Ruth comparison made by the trolling media. Attributing that to cub fans is just flat out lying.

We'll bump this thread in September. :D

But my predictions are usually off.

The point is a realistic projection was laughed at for being way too low.

He said that was his floor, which actually seems somewhat true given Beckham will probably do that this year.

400 at-bats is a pretty good sample. I'd suggest it's a lot different to say a guy who has big league success over that period of time upon being called up has a chance to be pretty good than it is to extrpolate same based on numbers in the PCL.

And it's not flat out lying. More than one Cub fan has suggested they would be disappointed if Rizzo was less than a Hall of Famer.

I'm disappointed when any Cub turns out to be less than a Hall of Famer.

Have you really? I've never, ever heard the words Hall of Fame associated with Rizzo in any conversation I've had about him.

You don't have to use the words "Hall of Fame". If you say you expect him to be like a guy who is headed for the Hall of FAme, that makes it pretty clear what your expectations are. I believe I posted a poll on it. I'm sure RPB could pull it up if it suited his agenda.

From what I saw last year, I believed Gordon Beckham to be the best defensive second baseman in the AL. I haven't seen anything this year to change my mind.

You'll always have 1969. More Hall of Famers than the Yankee Dynasty of the 50s.

What are you not getting?

A sox fan laughed at a reasonable projection because they way overvalued a player based on 400 at bats and thought he was an all star.

See, Sox fans ACTUALLY MAKE the ludicrous projections/predictions that are attributed (but never quoted) to Cub fans

Chris Sale is Randy Johnson and Beckham was Joe Morgan

Those are the kind of comparisons JORR uses (Babe Ruth, Willie Mays) that NO CUB FAN has said.
