I told a story here a long time ago about one of my old Columbia radio teachers who interacted with (and hated) Bernstein. She said they were at some pickup game and she tried to strike up conversation with him by talking about how good one of the players were. Then according to her, Bernstein said, "Yeah...they're probably all gonna wind up in jail anyway."

I have absolutely no doubt that Bernstein really said that.

Yeah, back then I was more willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. But over time, he has kinda proven himself to be the sort of guy who'd say that. Plus, the woman who told the story is trustworthy.

I think he bristles at the NBA Thug talk because it fits the shows greater overall theme. Part of that theme is making blanket statements about "dumb" Chicago fans and fan in general in relation to race and sports.

Here's the latest on the Ryan Dempster deal that might not be after all. CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman is now Tweeting that the Cubs & Braves had agreed on such a deal, but Ryan's Twitter remarks makes one wonder if he used his 10/5 veto rights that put the breaks on such a trade.

Good rule of thumb> Shake it more than two times you are playing with it.

Do you guys remember when he challenged Raymont Harris to a game of Scrabble? Harris must have mentioned in an interview how much he liked to play and Lord knows that Dan is the Master of the English Language so naturally there was no way Raymont (the dumb (black) jock from a *gasp* state school) could ever beat Bernstein (the white child of privilege and a very expensive private education) at a game like Scrabble.

IIRC Raymont won.

If anyone else talked about a similar encounter Dan would have no doubt called him a racist before he could even finish. "Ohhh, I see where this is going. I see the subtext!"

Goff said that first time he met Bernstein he (Goff) was wearing a nice leather jacket. Dan asked him if he was a drug dealer.

They joked about this last week. Goff brought it up and Bernstein made a CTE joke to the effect of, "Give it about 10 years and it'll be a different result." I admit, I laughed.
