I love when Dan declares something "absolutely true" when it couldn't be more false. NFL players aren't even close to Roman Gladiators. That's like saying McDonalds workers are absolutely just like slaves were. Sorry its true. Just ask them.

Jay Zawaski tried to get Vaughn McClure on the Mac/Spiegs show sometime back, and that was the response McClure texted back on why he wouldn't go on the show. We were not given more insight. Took place in the last hour of today's show...10/10/12. Guess away.

I can see some truths to the basis of his argument. uofiguy correctly states if you accept some of the contexts that Bernstein is using, you cannot then state that the NFL is different than the military and any attempt to compare the two is wrong.

I like how he said "many" nfl players are not enslaved and forced into playing. Really, so some nfl players are enslaved? They literally have masters?

This is just so fucking ignorant. I actually am turning this off. Not much makes me do that.

I don't see any basis for the comparison. It's a really stupid fucking analogy.

Roman gladiators were enslaved and killed routinely for entertainment. They had no say in it.

NFL players get compensated millions of dollars, have a quality of life equal to the top 2% of the population, are admired by millions, can accumulate generational wealth. They volunteer for this and know the risks going in.

There's no comparison to be made. There's no semi-truth to the analogy. Its an insanely stupid analogy, and persona or not, is just further evidence to me that Bernstrein is not an inherently intelligent person. At best, he's an educated fool.

You can choose your own source of information and debate how true the comparison is. There are some (not perfect) similarities even if you choose to say it is implausible and believe Bernstein to be both ignorant and arrogant.

To me, the larger issue is that of using gladiators as a similar comparison, but not being able to see a comparison between the military and the NFL. Seems you can make the NFL/gladiator comparison you should be able to make the NFL/military comparison.
