So just so I have this right from Dan: comparing football players to gladiators is right, comparing them to soldiers is wrong?

Post of The Year candidate.

Although, we have yet to have Keeping Score finish his NBA preview for the Milwaukee Bucks. :bounce: :bounce:

I am looking forward to this ZZ segment. Let's see how one Houseman defends both the House and WSCR simultaneously. Me thinks he is up to the challenge.

Better than some of his recent crap (no digital vampires!), but I just don't see the point. Some meathead tackle says "we're not gladiators," so Bernstein gives us 700 words on no wait actually you are gladiators and look at all the obscure stuff I know about gladiators! Time well spent.

We here at CSFMB find this an excellent decision. We, the 200 strong at CSFMB, believe in fair and unbiased reporting...

The gladiator comparison is definitely worse. What a dumbass Dan is when he tries to be thought provoking.

Dat's exactly right! I felt the integrity of the previews would be a bit comprised when I declared Thibs Coach of the Year, GarPax Executive of the Year, Bellinelli Most Improved Player, Marcus Teague Rookie of the Year, Lu Deng Defensive Player of the Year, and Joaquim Noah MVP.

No actually that sounds about right. That's what I have in my rough draft.

ZZ ready to roll

-Emery steps out of the tower to address BREAKING BOERS NEWS...
-Terry states Emery won't be involved in the negotiations anyway.
-Emery is an evaluator of people. Always looking for analogies. Stay calm unemotional through the process of analyzing. Team is a family. The analogies are very much the same. Each and everyone of the families are unique. We have happy times and bad times. Emery compares his family with Bears Family. Are we moving toward excellence. Do we have love and understanding...breaks out in song almost.
-That was a serious Cutler stroking right there.
-Emery addresses Bradshaw comments. He loves what 9 does on the field. He's a winner at a key position. Stroke him Stroke him...never enough Billy Squire on the board.
- Emery on #54...room for growth, but much better team with him than without him.
-Emery very happy with wideouts. Not going outside The Family.
-Boers asks about overall tenor (singers?) of Bears. Would you have any doubt of the status of Lovie Smith with the Bears. ZZ states it isn't a conversation that has come up since Emery was hired.
-ZZ states Lovie miffed by question regarding contract.
-ZZ opines it isn't in Lovie's interest to negotiate contract at this time. Berns fires back it is in the best interest of Bears to cordially discuss an extension NOW.
-Emery's philosophy is to wait until end of season which was not the prior regime's philosophy.
-Emery and Lovie Love one another behind closed doors...quoth.
-Vaughn comes up. Zawaski texts mentioned. ZZ states he has no idea what the deal is, but he hesitated. ZZ is playing both sides of the fence on this one.
- ZZ makes funny about being blasted off the air.

Nuggets: Wrap it up ZZ...Stupid story about a fake receipt joke played on McLellin. Bill $38,000. Bill would have maxed out #99's credit card. Great Gravy Wrap it up ZZ. Made #99 sweat for about 5 minutes. Final bill was actually $10,000. Slice of chocolate cake the size of Bernstein's giant head. "Great television sized head".
Rusty mentioned and asked about his humps...nothing there.

OK, so that wraps it up.

I love when Dan declares something "absolutely true" when it couldn't be more false. NFL players aren't even close to Roman Gladiators. That's like saying McDonalds workers are absolutely just like slaves were. Sorry its true. Just ask them.

Why do people think Dan Bernstein is smart? I think he says dumber things on a more regular basis than any host at the Score.

Jay Zawaski tried to get Vaughn McClure on the Mac/Spiegs show sometime back, and that was the response McClure texted back on why he wouldn't go on the show. We were not given more insight. Took place in the last hour of today's show...10/10/12. Guess away.

Bernsie got one helluva backpedal, he should market that technique at Bulls training camp.

I can see some truths to the basis of his argument. uofiguy correctly states if you accept some of the contexts that Bernstein is using, you cannot then state that the NFL is different than the military and any attempt to compare the two is wrong.

I like how he said "many" nfl players are not enslaved and forced into playing. Really, so some nfl players are enslaved? They literally have masters?

This is just so fucking ignorant. I actually am turning this off. Not much makes me do that.

You ever notice the 1250 signal gets shitcanned around 6 or 7 every night?

Not here locally, but I am sure up by you it does. They had the Bucks game last night, I didn't understand that.

The moral side of it is where I get off the bus. He wants to be this crusader who informs everyone about the dangers of CTE, but he also thinks all NFL games should be played in domes so that the players can run faster and demolish one another's brains more efficiently. Pick a lane.

I don't see any basis for the comparison. It's a really stupid fucking analogy.

Roman gladiators were enslaved and killed routinely for entertainment. They had no say in it.

NFL players get compensated millions of dollars, have a quality of life equal to the top 2% of the population, are admired by millions, can accumulate generational wealth. They volunteer for this and know the risks going in.

There's no comparison to be made. There's no semi-truth to the analogy. Its an insanely stupid analogy, and persona or not, is just further evidence to me that Bernstrein is not an inherently intelligent person. At best, he's an educated fool.

"The truth is when you become an nfl player, you sign away a bit of your humanity." - Bernsie

Is he under the impression this doesn't apply to soldiers? Not to mentions its just complete bullshit. Do people consider Drew Brees a more inhumane person than any of us? What about Ricky Williams? He's more a more inhumane person than he was 15 years ago? Dan is really losing it...

You can choose your own source of information and debate how true the comparison is. There are some (not perfect) similarities even if you choose to say it is implausible and believe Bernstein to be both ignorant and arrogant.

http://www.roman-colosseum.info/gladiat ... diator.htm

To me, the larger issue is that of using gladiators as a similar comparison, but not being able to see a comparison between the military and the NFL. Seems you can make the NFL/gladiator comparison you should be able to make the NFL/military comparison.
