It's exactly the day to do it. Agree with the idea or not, don't be afraid to have a discussion.

Looking at you Mr. President. Put on the big boy pants and lead.

It's said after every incident like this. The extended clip and assault weapons need to be restricted.

If that's his opinion, fine.

Don't be afraid to be honest.

Maybe they're all following their hero Limbaugh's (& whoever was on 560am's) lead. While every other news/talk station was covering this horrific matter, the gun advocates/original intent of the Constitution/state's rights folks could only seemingly talk about the need for the Republicans in Congress not to cave on the tax issues. They all seemed to think it was more important to stir up anger against the government and over a tax increase. 8)

I guess the fax from the Heritage Foundation telling them how to talk about this issue hadn't gotten there by 1pm. Maybe just maybe, they've momentarily realized the absolute moral emptiness of their traditional "guns aren't the problem" talking points.

I would've gone with Bart Gunn, but well played nonetheless.

Honesty is cool. I think believing that is foolish, but open dialogue is a good thing.

I don't own a gun.

I don't like guns.

I'm not real comfortable around guns either.

I do understand more and more with each passing day why others feel a need to own guns.

I respect their decision to choose gun ownership.

I think we will find once again in this instance that guns made this crime more horrific then it would have been otherwise.

I believe that it would have been with or without a gun.

Guns made it more horrific and it could have happened without the use of guns, but it is likely far fewer people would have died.

I agree. My bad for not making that point more clear.

Okay.

Today is indeed not the day to talk about it. Today is for emotional issues ... grieving, consolation, quiet doggedness hoping to get through this without "permanent" emotional scarring - somehow, etc.

The "need" to talk about the frankly very nebulous topic of "gun control" is no more necessary today than it was yesterday .... technically, in fact, today is too late to talk about it, at least for some folks' taste in our country today. Nobody is at any more risk today than they were yesterday .... it's just we were shown that, occasionally, the roulette wheel of life does occasionally land on double-zero.

Knee-jerk emotional responses get us places like Japanese internment camps and legislation such as The Patriot Act. No thanks, I'll pass, I've heard that song before.

All for Auto and Semi weapons to be illegal, would also like to see concealed handguns illegal, but even if so, does it really stop anything?
