Just a little food for thought.....in the 2012 regular season Cutler amassed 3033 yards passing. Poder had just 98 fewer yards (2935). Cutler completed 58.8% of his passes, while Poder completed 62.1%. Cutler threw 19 touchdown passes and had 14 interceptions. Ponder had 18 TD's and just 12 picks. I'm not suggesting Christian Ponder is a franchise QB. in fact, like most people I think he's pretty bad. But when the stats line up as closely for these 2 as they do, it makes it hard to call Cutler a franchise QB. The NFL has Cutler ranked in the lower half of starting QB's in it's QB ranking for good reason. It's where he belongs.

The Minnesota OL is far superior to the Bears. Also, Ponder is a QB on a running team. Cutler is a QB on a passing team.

That said, Cutler isn't that great.

You should call in to four shows tomorrow with these thoughts.

Cutler is on a passing team?? Weren't they like last place or bottom 3 or whatever in passing this season?

They are a pass first team, is what I mean. Not good at it, but they are.

Yeah but only because Mike Tice is interchangeable with Honey Boo Boo as an offensive coordinator, combined with Forte being banged up a bit throughout the season. Noone in their right mind looks at a team starting Cutler and Forte and decides they are better off passing first.

If only Cutler played half his games in a dome, he'd really light it up.

Thanks for telling us you think Cutler is mediocre at best, Steve. Really earth shattering opinion there.

I noticed yesterday that Samantha Steele had already changed her name to Ponder...much stronger pimp hand than Cutler

I disagree with Steve in Elmhurst's assumption that most believe Ponder is bad. I don't hear that at all. He is a very serviceable QB in his first couple seasons in the NFL, at least on a running team. He gets the job done, and isn't careless with the ball. He is mobile, and can make things happen. And best yet...he has shown he can improve. We're never going to talk about him being great...but he won't lose many games for a team.

The Bears played in very favorable weather all season. I can only think of one "cold" game they played.

In most games, he's asked to do little. That said, in the last game VS the Packers he made some key plays and probably had his best game .....of his career to date. But I think the majority of Football fans would consider him well below average as QB's go. If he has another good game this weekend VS the Packers (in Green Bay) it can be discussed further.

Oh, and Cutlers QB rating 81.3. Ponders QB rating 81.2. The stats overall are nearly identical. IMU-as a Viking fan your opinion on Ponder must be biased. Nobody outside Vikings fans consider Ponder a good QB. He's right at the top of the list for QB's likely to be replaced in 2013, along with Sanchez, Gabbert/Henne, and Jake Locker.

Ponder is not seen as a good QB. He is easily in the bottom 10 QB's in the league.

One can be a fan and still be unbiased. It is called being an intelligent fan.

He is in his second year. No, he is not at the top of the list of QB's being replaced. He is the QB of a playoff team. A QB that never hurts his offense. He is a dependable game manager on a run-based team.

If I was crazy in this opinion, I'd have 10-20 CSFMB members calling me on it.

It is a crazy opinion and if you were not debating ME on the subject many would have called you on it. Of all the QB's rated prior to the season, only Jake Locker and Blaine Gabbert were rated lower. Kevin Kolb Ryan Fitzpatrick, Sam Bradford and Matt Cassel were all rated higher. he's a QB of a playoff team because he plays with the greatest RB in the league. He's a passenger on this cruise, not the Captain. I give him credit for a good game last week against the Packers, but I'll bet he doesn't have a similar effort this weekend in Green Bay. He'll revert to being a lousy game manager, incapable of making plays when needed. Packers 27-13.

How about you bring up current QB power rankings? Of not both QB's starting in Week 17, but all QB's that have started at least a few games in 2012.

The fact that he was ranked 30th of 32, and now is ranked better should show that he is capable of improvement. Which is a good thing, you know.

The power rankings I read all season had him listed at the bottom of the barrel.

In the latest Power rankings on NFL.com Ponder is listed in the bottom 8 of the league. It doesn't give an exact number, he's just listed in the catagory "Bottom of the barrel". Other Catagories include Top shelf (Brady, Manning and Rodgers) Knocking on the door (Ryan, Brees, Rothlisberger and Eli Manning_I disagree with that one), Also Top 10 (RG3, Romo and Luck) Middle of the Pack (Newton, Cutler, Flacco, Schaub, Kapernick, Stafford, Rivers, Smith, Dalton and Tannehill) Below average (freeman, Vick, Bradford, Fitzpatrick and Palmer) and FINALLY.....Bottom of the barrel (Locker, Foles, Weeden, Cassel, Gabbert, Henne, PONDER and Sanchez.

The only Week 17 ones I can find show him at 25th out of the 32 starting QB's for Week 17. It did not count any of the season's failed QB's, which I believe would all be ranked under Ponder. I believe in his third season he will show more improvement, and as a fan, the team could do much worse. Hopefully Harvin will be healthy next year, and the Vikings can find a solid #2, or Simpson / Jenkins will step up.

Is Harvin going to be back next year? I've heard a couple of Minneapolis reporters suggest that he doesn't mesh well with Leslie Frazier and thus won't return.

Is that just one writers opinion or are there stats with rankings? ....ponder is much better than locker and Sanchez and weeden...breed is top tier, that list is awful...Sanchez n locker, weeden are not starters. In this league...ponder is an average qb..like cutler.

Go to NFL.com and view the rankings and you will see them listed as I posted them here.

NFL.com has a writer with personal opinions like like every other writer on every other website. Their list isn't any more "official" than the list I found.

Please do tell where you "found" your list. I would love to go search out the list you say has Ponder listed significantly higher.

He had a 5.09 ERA for the Rangers.

Is that very well?

Dempster had 2 really bad starts that inflated his ERA. Overall, he was very good and had a 7-3 record for the Rangers in his stay there.

Still waiting on that (made up) list you SAY you found that has Ponder listed significantly higher than the one I posted listing him (accurately) as "Bottom of the Barrel".

Freeman had a 5-6 game stretch where he was terriffic. About as good as anyone in the league. But early and especially late in the season, he was mostly awful. Bradford is not consistent either. He has some good games and just about as many bad games. Tannehill is probably ranked a bit high, but I have more issue with where Rivers is ranked (too high). Also not really in step with Rothlisberger and Eli Manning being ranked along with Ryan and Brees. Brees belongs in the Top Tier. But the fact that Ponder is ranked in the bottom catagory is not something I have issue with. Do you?
