Not just tryin to pick on you Scorehead, but why the hell is everyone spelling his name like this? I've seen it spelled this way at least a half dozen times.

I just spelled it the way it was spelled earlier in this thread. It is indeed Trestman.
I'm sure that Gabe is pulling for him!

Reports are Trestman also just interviewed with Clevland.

This guy looks like Al Davis:

If everyone was so shocked by Lovie getting canned, how are they going to feel if he doesn't get hired by anyone?

That's what The SCORE's Laurence Holmes said last night. He thinks Mike McCoy is the preferred choice, but because the Broncos are still in the NFL Playoffs, the Bears can't necessarily hire him until the Broncos are eliminated. That's the part of the system that sucks.

John Fox, McCoy's boss these days in Denver, I think was also a victim of the system when he was defensive coordinator of the Giants during, I think their Super Bowl title run about 4 years or so ago. It doesn't seem fair.

John Fox was not a defensive coordinator for the Giants 4 years ago.

Looks like that was the 2000 Giants Super Bowl run. You know, I forgot that season ever happened.

I think they could hire McCoy if they wanted between AFC champ game and SB. He just wouldn't start until after the SB.

I was actually going to ask that question here? Can a team announce the hiring of an assistant coach who is still coaching in the playoffs?

I thought I heard that if they don't hire someone in the playoffs this week, they can't do it until they're eliminated.

Peyton Manning will retire and coach the Bears. Cutler will blame him for not knowing enough about offense or being an experienced play caller.

Montreal Alouettes coach Marc Trestman has reportedly been hired as the Chicago Bears' new head coach.

FACEBOOK

TWITTER
According to FOX Sports' Jimmy Johnson, the Chicago Bears have tapped Marc Trestman as their new head coach.

Johnson tweeted early Friday morning, "Looks like 2 of my guys getting NFL jobs..Chud Cleveland and my QB coach at U Trestman to Chicago." The Bears have not made an official announcement yet.

Trestman spent the past five years as head coach of the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League, leading them to three Grey Cup appearances and two titles. He has a long history in the NFL dating back to 1985, landing OC and QB coach gigs with the Vikings, Browns, 49ers, Lions, Cardinals, Raiders and Dolphins before moving to the CFL.

A student of the West Coast offense, Trestman is renowned as a QB guru, guiding Rich Gannon, Scott Mitchell and Steve Young to career years. He also drew interest from the Cleveland Browns. The 56-year-old seems to be a good fit for Jay Cutler.

Emery has just set himself up to look like the biggest genius or the biggest idiot in the NFL.

Other than Jimmy Johnson tweet, no indication #Bears are close to naming a head coach. Still have first interviews scheduled this weekend.

He interviewed Clements last night, Dennison today, Bevell tomorrow and Arians Sunday. We'll know for sure if he cancels those or not. Could just be a leading candidate.

I'm not a technophobe and I enjoy Twitter, but here is why it isn't really great as a news source. Guys like Jimmy Johnson and Jason Goff feel very comfortable tweeting out unconfirmed stuff as if Twitter has somehow insulated them from using standard journalistic practices. This isn't Maddux Boy we're talking about. These are professionals who draw paychecks from major news organizations. If they wouldn't put it in a newspaper with their byline, they probably shouldn't be tweeting it.

I love the wait. Unlike last time, the great coaching candidates don't seem to be getting hired-up by all of the competition in a mad dash, so no pressure is on Us to make a move right away.

When Lovie was hired, the only other coaches that were available were Jim Fossel and Nick Saban, neither of whom had any intention of coming here. Oh, and Russ Grimm. You didn't want him, did you?

@RapSheet: I see @JimmyJohnson's #Bears tweet about Trestman. Yet I'm told the Bears are still interviewing. So... not the coach yet, apparently

Jimmy Johnson is not a reporter though and didnt present it as a "report"

As to rumors of Bears hiring Trestman- Trestman has not heard from them since interview. Was not informed if would be a finalist ...

Biggs points out in his Tribune article that Johnson's Tweet didn't specify that Trestman was getting the Bears head coaching job. He speculates that Trestman could be an OC candidate. But why would Emery interview OC candidates without having a head coach?
