He was OC for 4 teams, including a Super Bowl team. You're just trying to make it seem worse.

Plus, you don't know he "couldn't get a college job". I heard of 1, maybe 2, that he might even have been considered for so you don't really know his mindset. Sounds like Walsh, who he really respected, advised him to get head coaching experience. Who's to say he couldn't have come back to the NFL as an OC and chose not to pursue it to develop the HC experience. People are making a lot of assumptions about his history.

That said, he's a gamble but not that much moreso than any other hot OC candidate (of which there weren't many). Would Arians have been better? Why did he coach for 456 years without anyone wanting him as an HC? But, it seems he did OK when given the chance. It's always a crapshoot at some level. This is about Emery. Do we trust his judgement? Find out.

Jacksonville should hire a guy like this. A team that's rebuilding should hire a guy like this. This was easily the best available opening and this is the best the Bears could do. I don't think I have to make him seem worse. The facts do a pretty good job at that. All the other candidates have had some recent success. Will he send the punting unit out after 2nd down? Right now do you actually feel he is an upgrade over Lovie?

And that's what they did. Maybe not the upcoming season, but the one after that...

Not sure why people are saying Trestman is not an upgrade over Lovie. Trestman has worked with some great QBs (Young, Gannon, etc.) and is an OFFENSIVE mind. Lovie couldn't call an offensive play if it bit him in the ass.

Let's see how things play out this season and the next. If Trestman can bring this offensive into the top 15 consistently, coupled with the current defensive scheme, I don't see how this can be a losing situation.

If Marinelli stays and they keep the Cover-2 as the base D, and go after some solid O-lineman, I am good with this pick.

That's true but those other guys coached up rookies and changed their offenses on the fly to fit the talent. Everyone here thought the Colts and Seahawks would be drafting in the top 10 next season. I'm just a little pissed now. I'm sure by July I'll be on board.

You should also point out that the Colts far exceeded expectations this year. At the beginning of the season, the Colts were regarded as a laughingstock but concluded 2012 as one of the "teams to watch" for the future.

Has anyone mentioned that Tice is officially gone? Apparently our new O-Line AND O-Coordinator is Aaron Kromer, the Saints interim head coach.

Tice should have never been given play calling duties. He doesn't come off as a very smart or creative guy.

Even if you hate the Trestman hire, you might find a silver lining here .....

Well, then people are stupid because they sucked last year because they were forced to stick Curtis Painter in as QB. It's amazing what can happen when you take an 11 win team from 2 years ago and stick a "once in a decade" franchise QB and a couple other high draft picks in.

He did a decent job but it shouldn't have blown anybody's mind that the Colts could actually be good again with a halfway decent QB. And that's all they were...good...good enough to beat the Jacksonvilles and Kansas Citys and Clevelands and Buffalos of the world.

Also because no one else has any interest in him and his age would also be a factor. He will most likely not be considered for a HC position again either. He may also not have liked the defensive calls Lovie made. No one knows.

That colts team had a lot of roster changes in the last year, not reallythe same team from painters team... where is. Marinelli going to go? Lovie can't find work.

Gutsy move by Emery. He'll be a laughingstock if this doesn't work out.

Very gutsy. They were 10-6 this season, anything below that next season is a step back and uxexceptable. Disappointed they didn't call other coaches. Looks like a money issue, though they say money didn't matter. Should have called BB, Gruden, Zimmer, and others.

Don Zimmer coaches baseball.

Making the playoffs is a step forward. That can be done at 10-6, sometimes even at 9-7 or 8-8

Fair enough. I was getting a little fired up.

Still, not shocked that Wayne, Freeney, Mathis, a #1 QB, and some high-level skill position draft picks and free agent signings could beat some bad teams.

9 years ago,I wanted Wally Buono (CFL Head Coach) to coach the Bears. I think this guy is going to make things exciting. Best of Luck to him.

Why are you sanguine about the team's defensive progress given the age of key players, the unit's ineffectiveness against good offenses, and the fact that the team's real defensive coordinator, Lovie, is no longer with the team? The Bears are on the verge of requiring a complete defensive overhaul; their new coach has been hired to hold Jay Cutler's hand.

I like the assistant coach hires already and keeping Marinelli.

If getting Arians meant losing Marinelli, then I'm OK with going this direction. I'm of the likely misguided impression that the Bears can "reload" instead of a complete rebuild. This combo of keeping Marinelli is more likely to accomplish this.

Trestman is surrounding himself with some good, experienced guys so far.

With a better Oline, they can absolutely compete for a division title next year. It was still like week 12 or 13 when the Bears were in the drivers seats for the #2 seed.
