I do not know, but the fact that many people previously identified themselves as "homosexual," but no longer identify as such leads me to believe there is a choice. You do have to choose whether to engage in inappropriate relationship with members of the same sex or to acknowledge those relationships are not appropriate regardless of "how you feel."

It's like someone who is fat and says, "I have the fat gene." There may be certain predispositions in the family, but ultimately you have to come the place where you accept responsibility. Well, I may be fat, but it's because I have chosen to overeat.

Once you realize you've made a choice to be where you are, then you can make a choice to take a different course.

Anyone with a basic understanding of the nature/nurture debate would know that how I am can be controlled but ultimately how I am is based in part due to the genetic code that your God chose to give me.

It's always convenient to blame your genes or your environment for your problems in life. As though those things are the only things that control your behavior. Certainly they do play a big role, but if you choose not to say you have a choice then you've chosen to be a victim of your circumstance. It's like saying because a man is from a rough background that he is justified in committing crimes because he was born into an impoverished family.

The pattern of denial has to be broken in terms of what was the man was born with and what he must choose to do with his life. It's like saying I am merely the product of my genes and environment and I cannot possibly change, so I should not be expected to change. To say you don't have a choice is to choose to not change.

In the illustration about Pistorius, he can't change the fact that he doesn't have legs. But he shouldn't try to use it as a justification for murder either. The man born in a poor family didn't choose to be in a poor family, but he did choose to commit crime. A person who is described as "gay" may not choose to have those feelings how ever they developed. But that person is responsible for what they choose to do with those feelings. You can get help or you can deny there is a problem and take no responsibility for your action.
