There is a strong rumor that he said the Daytona pole was rigged. He's probably right. There is no one Nascar, Fox, Sprint.....etc. wanted on that pole more than who was on it. They had all off season to make sure that car was hooked up.

I told you guys that the Gen 6 car is a big problem & the racing is crap & that NASCAR would need to address this.
Supposedly there was a gag order issued from NASCAR to all drivers to refrain from making comments that were critical of the Gen 6 car. You see what happened to the Nationwide driver who made critical tweets.
NASCAR has finally got to the point where they have made the new car so safe that it has taken away the 2 most important aspects of racing...passing & drafting.

College graduates have spent their entire lifetimes using and working with the internet, attending school, and understanding the critical factors in making a website user-friendly and functional and NASCAR couldn't find one of those touchy-feely, artsy bastards TO DESIGN THEIR SITE!?!?!

NASCAR has fined Denny Hamlin $25,000 for making what officials perceived as inexcusably critical comments about the new Generation 6 car after last Sunday's Phoenix race. As NASCAR said in a statement:
"Following the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event last Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway, Denny Hamlin made some disparaging remarks about the on-track racing that had taken place that afternoon. While NASCAR gives its competitors ample leeway in voicing their opinions when it comes to a wide range of aspects about the sport, the sanctioning body will not tolerate publicly made comments by its drivers that denigrate the racing product."

What exactly did Hamlin say? He had some postrace comments about the racing and the car that appeared to be critical, but did they rise to the level of denigration?

"I don't want to be the pessimist, but it did not race as good as our Generation 5 cars [a.k.a. "Car of Tomorrow"]," Hamlin said. "This is more like what the Generation 5 was at the beginning. The teams hadn't figured out how to get the aero balance right. Right now, you just run single-file and you cannot get around the guy in front of you. You would have placed me in 20th-place with 30 (laps) to go, I would have stayed there — I wouldn't have moved up. It's just one of those things where track position is everything."
Here's another line: "I hate to be 'Denny-downer,' but I just didn't pass that many cars today. That's the realistic fact of it."
If those are indeed the comments that got Hamlin fined, that's just flat-out ridiculous. Hamlin was stating facts about passing and single-file racing, and noted that the teams still need to determine how best to get the cars up to speed.
"I do believe we give our drivers a lot of flexibility when it comes to that, whether it be about officiating or about how a race is called," NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp told several reporters in Las Vegas on Thursday. "The main area of focus here we take exception to is the product, the racing. That's our brand, that's the drivers' brand, that's the sport's brand and that's an area we feel very strongly about."

Still, there's protective and there's paranoid. NASCAR is understandably and justifiably proud of the Gen 6 car; its appearance compared to the Car of Tomorrow is like comparing Beyonce to a brick. Fining a driver for commentary like this comes off as petty, and we're not talking The King.

The chief complaint among lapsed and wavering NASCAR fans is that the drivers are whitebread, vanilla automatons compared to their forebears. It's tough to get NASCAR drivers to show more personality, but it's an easy matter indeed to get them to show less: pop them every time they step out of a proscribed line.

Sunday was a bit boring to me so I guess I agree with Hamlin. If I want to watch lines of cars racing making their moves for the lead via pit stops I will watch Indy cars. They look cooler.

This sucks big time. Racing is big enough to have its own channel. I understand that Fox Sports wants to compete with ESPN, CBS Sports & NBC Sports, but transitioning Speed to Fox Sports 1 & getting rid of the only channel devoted to racing sucks. Racing will most certainly take on a smaller role on the station, & eventually will go away...unless Fox attempts to move NASCAR races from Fox to Fox Sports 1.

I told you CSFMB racing fans a few weeks ago that the Gen 6 car was going to be a problem for NASCAR. I told you last week that NASCAR had put a gag order on NASCAR drivers, prohibiting them from making comments that are critical of the Gen 6 car. Hamlin speaks up & he gets fined $25K. The drivers don't like this car. The racing sucks.

Changing the shape of the car is a huge change. It disrupts the air around the cars in a much different way and some of the analysis that I've seen shows that when the two cars get side by side it disrupts the air enough to slow down the momentum of the approaching car.

Similar concerns were made when the COT first was raced. Kyle Busch famously calling it a piece of shit after he won the first race. I expect some tweaks will be made by NASCAR and some team will hit on the setup to give them an advantage and kick some ass until everybody else catches up - just like last time.

They can say what they want, but that was before they had 43 cars on the track and see how they react. After this weekend, they will have a much better idea about the car good or bad. They will have a raced at a superspeedway, a shorter track and a 1.5 mile oval.

That was at Daytona. I don't think they question that it has higher speed and the differentiation is the main selling point of the change.

They will develop the handling and drafting aspects as they get more data as Hawg Ass said. Drivers are notorious for bitching about stuff. It's a big change and you can only model so much on a computer. They'll get it figured out by the All-Star race.

I think they addressed that it wasn't meant for parity. The Good Ol' Boy network has been making it pretty clear that they want to be able to differentiate the cars. Count me in on that also.

So, NASCAR is doing this even though it is possible that one of the noses could have a competitive advantage. I believe the thinking is that any advantage can be offset by other adjustments and the risk is worth it.
