Well yeah....if you consider that Hastert was essentially a Bush(handler's ?) functionary & was speaker from 99-07 in a House that had been republican dominated since '95. Simple politics, if not loyalty to the then head of the Republican party during the years '01-07 at the minimum dictated the de facto Bush budgets come from the body with the purse strings.

Jesus Christ never had to present a birth certificate. Every vote he received exclusively because of his skin color was balanced by a vote against him for the same reason.

A presidential candidate having a leg up because he is African American is a novel argument given the history of the office, demographics of the country and voting trends of the democratic party. If only progressives had thought of it earlier, they could have held the office since universal suffrage.
