Not even close. If he is still hurting physically and isn't mentally ready he is at greater risk of getting hurt than he normally would be. He says he is still thinking instead of playing. That is dangerous. I don't think Rose has done anything in his career that would make me question his commitment and desire to win. I think everyone is thinking more as fans and naturally not caring about the person and his career going forward. If he goes out there "thinking" and tears up his other knee or the same knee he will lose a lot of money. At 24 he has at least 1 more max contract and other endorsements to make.
Then announce you are out for the rest of the season. If he still honestly "doesn't know" when he is going to be mentally ready, then I already believe he isn't made of tough stuff upstairs. We're going on a month now from when doctors said he is cleared physically to play.
Derrick Rose is already set for life. You've got teammates and a fan base to answer to. Teammates that are supposed to have each other's backs...and the fans that generate his income, both through Bulls ticket sales and Adidas retail purchases.
If you're a physical laborer...doing a demanding job...1 month after you've been medically cleared you're working, or you're out of a job.
Why should he have to? The Bulls aren't requiring that he needs to. The doctors don't know what Rose is feeling. The doctors are doing what the Bulls pay them to do. His play hasn't given me a reason to question his mental toughness.
Rose SHOULD be set for life but we've seen many players make horrible financial decisions. Even with that being the case he has the potential to make close to $1B if he has a great and long career. He should do what's best for his family first. He answers to the fans and his teammates when he steps on the court.
Most of them don't have the luxury of sitting out longer. If Rose were physically and mentally ready and just wasn't playing I would have a bigger problem. I did initially feel the way you do but the more I thought about it I ended up seeing it differently.
BTW Rose will be back before the end of this month.
