I agree with your sentiments, but I don't think anything will change with them until people stop showing up. There's no reason for them to try.

Also, on the subject of Kuma's, I've never once had a bad experience there in the 3 times I have gone. I've read a bunch of complaints online, but I'm thinking alot of it has to do with the "The music is too loud" or "Why isn't my table ready?" complaints. It's a small place with like 10 tables. Of course it's going to be loud and crowded. I just think people that complain about it, are probably the ones who also receive the shitty service.

Not always, but I'd be willing to bet that their sales have probably doubled every year over the past couple years. If it's not broke, you don't need to fix it.

I have been to 3F once. My buddy and I went to get lunch, and carry out four cases of beer. Everybody was really nice to us. It was noon, and both of us were bearded, so perhaps they accepted us as their own.

Unfortunately it probably is. Maybe it's a cultural shift but service doesn't matter much these days.

I like their beer, but I don't know if I would ever travel to Munster for anything there. I definitely would never stand in line for beer. That's just a little ridiculous.

I agree, but if that's their choice, then people should just go somewhere else.

Many people here have commented about how terrible they have been treated there, but at the same time they said they will keep buying the beer. When it becomes to be a problem for their bottom line, I'm sure they will make adjustments.

I've only had it once.....a bomber of Alpha Klaus. It was good but nothing I'd seek out again. I'm sure there are other better choices.

Exactly what I was trying to say but you put it more eloquently. I'm game for a trip to their brewpub once or twice a year, but as far as buying them locally (see: the $12.99 Dreadnaught and Arctic Panzer bombers), no thanks. To me, Zombie Dust is worth the hour drive.

My main problem with Kuma's (possibly since solved with the opening of Kuma's Too) is the same as my problem with Hot Doug's. You have a tiny little space and you like your life. You take off days and shut down when you please. Your place is packed with lines out the door constantly. You have developed a cult of personality that drives the business and you like it that way. Fine. But then why are you constantly promoting a place that is so difficult to get into? If you don't want to accommodate new customers, don't try to chase them.

As far as 3 Floyds is concerned, I'm not a beer guy, so I can't really speak to the product. I know my friend, who is a true beer snob and highly respected guy in the craft brewing world (He convinced Founder's to put their Porter back in the Chicago market and that guy- Greg, I think- who was the brewmaster at Goose also values his opinion.), Thinks most 3 Floyds products lack subtlety and are just hopped up wantonly. Like I said, I don't know. But if you like a beer, you like a beer. You can only get Dark Lord or Zombie Dust in one place. If that's what you want, I guess they can shit all over you and keep you coming back.

Except the two times I've hung out the brewpub, I've never been shit on. The bartenders chatted us up throughout the day. Ended up spending three hours at the bar, trying various brews. Like I said, to me, it's worth a trip there a couple times a year. It's only an hour drive.

Great Divide out of Colorado has outstanding brews. They are a small place as well, but there is never any issue with distribution that I've noticed. It's always available at any place that has some decent micro brews. Their Yeti Imperial Stout, for about 8.50 a 22oz is amazing, same with their Hercules Double IPA. I'm going on a semi-boycott after DLD of 3 Floyds. It's not worth all the hassel and bullshit.....and I don't have a beard, so I am now the enemic.

I rated one of their beers maybe 10 years ago on some beer rating site. It was their Robert the Bruce.....whatever style it was.... and in my rating I stated that I deducted points because Robert the Bruce fucked over Braveheart. Their owners had a shitfit and sent my angry pm's over this.

i was never into robert the bruce but zombie dust is good.

however, there are plenty of other breweries that also offer good beer you can go to instead if you want to snub 3 floyds.

I'll be going to Crown Brewery more often. I do kind of hope that more people sour on them and then they become desperate for business again. Not likely for how big and renound they've become though.

There are some local breweries starting to pump out good stuff....

I've had some good to very good beers from Pipeworks Brewery lately. Revolution is really cranking out some great beers. Two Brothers may be approaching large micro status but they have a few that are excellent. Half Acre has some top notch stuff.

I used to go crazy for 3 Floyds in the past but with the difficulty in finding it paired with the challenge to actually get Zombie Dust anywhere - I gave up on them. Will I buy a bomber? Now and then but I've moved on.

Not strictly 3 Floyds related, but I'm posting from the Holiday Inn in Grand Rapids. Had a Wednesday ticket for the KBS release. As I have told in posts before, I said I was never coming back for this, but this year they did ticketing online ahead of time. You got Weds, Thurs, Fri, or Sat for your ticket. Last year, we were in line at 4 AM in below freezing weather for hours and got 12 beers after about an 8 hour wait. This year, we pulled up and there was one person in line ahead of us. Got our beer and got out. Totally different experience because you aren't sharing beers with others in the line, but at the same time, very efficient. If I do it next year, I probably wouldn't even bother with the hotel room, just drive up, get the beer, and drive back.

The big downer was that they had no special beers there... everything was their normal stuff and some sort of watermelon beer... I guess they are saving it for the Saturday party.
