Johnathan Gray reportedly topped out at 102 during his Saturday start

Sean Manea missed his weekend start with a sore hip. The injury is not considered serious

HS LHP Rob Kaminsky topped out at 94 during his last start

Kris Bryant hit his 22nd home run

HS OF Ryan Boldt injured his knee diving for a fly ball

Michael Lorenzen (Cal St Fullerton) is finally starting to show his offensive potential and is being considered as a position player instead of a reliever

Clint Frazier hit his 13th home run

Who is Gray's agent? I would rather not deal with Appel's douchebag agent but if its him then so be it.

I am leaning towards taking Meadows though and trading for some pitching. I would rather have a good player every day than once every 5 days.

Special enough to take ahead of one of those 2 dominant college pitchers?

I dont know. That's what Im saying. He keeps getting mentioned with, or above those two guys, so that suggests to me he must be something special.

This thread is gonna be hilarious in 7 years when Appel becomes Jeff Weaver, Gray becomes Greg Olsen (the starter), and Meadows becomes Phil Nevin

The more I read the more Clint Frazier sounds better than Meadows. Meadows contact is said to be concerning. I don't trust the Cubs minor league staff to fix that. He is an athlete where Frazier is a ball player. He also pimps the fuck out of his hrs.

The thing that scares me about Appel or Gray is that you almost have to bank on their elbow blowing sooner than later.

I think Frazier has more swing and miss potential than Meadows. Meadows also has a much better chance to stay in centerfield where Frazier will likely end up at a corner.

Meadows scares me in that he reminds me of Brett Jackson. I just watched some video of their hitting and Frazier has a hammer of a bat despite being quite a bit smaller than Meadows.

I don't know how you can compare Meadows to Brett Jackson. Meadows blows Jackson out of the water at this stage of their development. Meadows is being considered as a top 5 pick while Jackson wasn't even drafted out of high school.

Frazier definitely has the best bat speed in the draft.

What they want Jackson to be seems to be what Meadows projects as. I'm not comparing their development but what the hopeful end result would be. I am just scared off by the toolsy athlete label. I like the straight up ball player aspect of Frazier.

Mark Appel and Johnathan Gray both had lackluster starts this weekend

Sean Manea's velocity was back up to 90-92

Ryan Boldt's knee injury was worse than origanally reported as he has arthroscopic knee surgery and will not play again before the draft

Kris Bryant hit his 28th home run of the season

Clint Frazier hit his 16th home run of the season

edit: Kris Bryant hit his 29th home run of the season. I'm really starting to think the Cubs may draft this Kid.

5 of the Cardinals current top 10 prospects are pitchers (well, 4 now that Shelby Miller's in the majors).

I doubt they take a college junior pitching prospect in the first round. Too much of a log jam of arms ready for the majors. If they go pitcher, and they probably will, they'll go HS.

Doesn't Dombrowski always draft pitchers first round? Could see the Tigers taking Gonzales if the Cardinals don't.

In the first round they should take the best player available and Marco Gonzalez is pretty darn good. I'd be happy if the Sox popped him at 17.

The Tigers haven't had a first round pick since 2009 so the book is out the window on what Dombrowski might do. He'll probably go with the highest ceiling guy because that farm system sucks and they need high ceiling talent in a bad way.

That's true, plus arms are always good trade chips and you can never be too rich/thin or have too much pitching. Except the freaking Rays. Tampa had like 8 picks in the first 2 rounds a couple drafts ago, back when teams still got compensatory picks for losing guys to free agency.

Sox and Tigers both need farm system replenishment--difference being Dombrowski emptied out his farm system in an effort to win a World Series and they likely will be back in the hunt again for another chance to get swept by the NL in the Fall classic.

Not sure what Kenny's excuse is for the Sox moribund farm system. Maybe not drafting Ozzie's kids high enough?

LHP Sean Manea missed his last start due to stiffness in his shoulder and an achy hip and is his stock droppping like a stone

RHP Chris Anderson's (Jacksonville Univ) stock is also dropping due to a heavy workload and a drop in velocity

RHP Alex Balog (San Francisco Univ) is flying up draft boards as his velocity is going up

There are rumors the Astros are considering 3B Colin Moran and OF Austin Meadows for 1-1

There are also rumors the Twins are very high on HS C Reese McGuire at 1-4

He could go to Boston at 7. It really depends if Minnesota takes Kohl Stewart at 4 or if they go with a safer sign like Shipley

Phillip Erwin - OF - Samford University
Alex Gonzalez - RHP - Oral Roberts
Jonathon Crawford - RHP - Florida
Chris Anderson - RHP - Jacksonville
Marco Gonzales - LHP - Gonzaga
Bobby Wahl - RHP - Mississippi

Erwin- good combination of speed and power. Good athlete. Projects as an above average right fielder.

Alex Gonzalez- sinker/slider guy with a decent change. Projects as a middle of the rotation starter

Johnathan Crawford- power fastball power slider but he's a wrapper. Don't like him.

Chris Anderson- power pitcher started out great but has faded due to a heavy workload. He would have to be brought along slowly

Marco Gonzalez- very polished lefty with excellent command of all 3 pitches. Doesn't have a high ceiling but has a very high floor. I really like this guy.

Bobby Wahl- Big fastball and slider but not much else. Projects as a reliever.

Nice.. I think i'll go with your earlier thoughts and hope for Gonzales.. seems like he could be a guy in the mold of the now-broken Jaime Garcia

I just saw a mock that had the Cards taking 3B Eric Jagielo at 19 and OF Aaron Judge at 28. I'm hoping Jagielo is taken a couple picks ahead of 19.
