Luke Appling needs to be on there in the top 4.

No, that would be more like "what is your favorite infield position"

He probably corked his bat, too.

Adam Dunn had more homeruns last year than Rizzuto did in his entire career.

Appling added to list. He played later than I thought.

The post-1930 stipulation probably excludes the greatest shortstop of all time.

yeah, it's tough. I am biased and think old timers were good, but you have to admit, it was a different game in the teens and 20s. Hornsby was probably the best.

I can't really comment on this, without basically... relying on the gospel [read: opinion] of old fogies and Bill Jamesian computer formulas.

So.. top 10 SS that I have seen play:

No particular order:

Ripken
Smith
Fernandez
Yount
Vizquel
Jeter [meh]
Larkin
Trammell
Tulowitzki
Renteria

Wagner. Hornsby was a 2b/1b

That's what makes it fun!

Best I ever saw, day in day out, in order:
Larkin
Smith
Yount
Ripken
Trammell

What does this irrelevant argument have to do with anything? Is Adam Dunn a shortstop?

Plus, I would love to see Adam Dunn come face to face with a Nazi in the heat of battle. That bravery equals something like a thousand home runs.

This is like the Ernie Banks of lists

JORR suggested SS was a more "important" position than 1B. Got me to thinking. I'll get around to the others. 2B is loaded. Maybe better than SS.

Aparicio belongs on there. He's very similar to Smith and Vizquel.

So was Strasburg.

For less than a season.

Castro has done it over 4 years. 500 hits before his 23rd birthday! Not bad
