10 thoughts between games:
1) I said before yesterday's game that I do not like Q's coaching style. This team continues to have games where they are flat. The power play is crap. The line flipping works and then it doesn't so flip some more. I don't like it. I doubt the players like it. Even in the regular season, this team would take whole periods off. I understand it is tough to keep a great pace every period of every game, but now they seem to be taking whole games off. With this level of talent, the power play should not suck nor should the entire team go bad at once.
Well, he's got 'em THIS far for the second time in four years, so...agreed on the power play, though
2) I can't tell if what Keith did was intentional. I lean towards what Shakes said. That makes the most sense. Keith obviously felt bad afterwards, so clearly he did not intend the face shot. Maybe he was just going for a hook or body slash. A suspension would surprise me. A fine is more likely.
No news just yet, but I think if he gets a game that is fair. A fine would work better, of course...3) The 2-1 score does not tell the tale of that game. The Kings missed the net a ton, and Crawford largely kept the Hawks in it. You replay that game 100 times with the relative efforts, and it should fall the Kings way 85%+.
As bad as the Hawks were and as refocused as the Kings were, the Hawks were a Bickell shot away from tying the game late in the third. If the Hawks played like games one or two, they win last night.4) CH, safe travels to FL. We'll miss you for game 4. I'll be in WI after game 4, so I too will be MIA this weekend.
Travel mojo to you both.5) A shame to lose Bickell, but I suspect his success is temporary. Someone will overpay, and it will be bad paper. He's hot right now, but this is the only major flash of his career.
Agreed. I would want another season like this before offering anything substantial.6) I put a lot of blame on Toews. He is the captain, and when the team keeps coming out flat,
it makes me think we need a more vocal leader. His own play has been way below what it needs to be. He gets plenty of roses thrown his way, but I haven't seen him do much the entire series.
He's been bad, but no - more vocal does not equal better.7) Hossa looks old.
Sadly, yes - it's like he's run out of gas since the playoffs started. Sure, he's scored a few goals, but he's not playing like the Hossa we are used to - the little board battles, passing, etc -
Oduya still doesn't want to hit anybody.
FIFY. Seabrook's had a few, at least.9) Hammer gives his body up. Kudos for being a backstop.
He's the new Sopel.10) I really want a Hawks/Penguins series. Here's hoping Pittsburgh bounces back.
I don't care.
