Clippers are offering Jordan and 2 #1 picks for KG and Doc. That seems like a high price for a coach and a finished KG.
Boston should jump all over that.
Donald Sterling strikes again.
I think it's a bad deal for Boston. I don't really see the upside. Jordan has 2-3 years left on his deal at $10+ million a year. That's bad money. So you're giving up one of the best coaches in the league and the best player in the deal(albeit like a 37 year old one) to take back a bad contract and all you get is two late first round picks? Sounds like a bad deal.
I'm comfortable in thinking the Clippers will return to being the Clippers and Boston would have 2 lottery picks.
They've been a playoff team for two years straight with Paul, and if they acquire Rivers, KG and retain Paul, I don't see the playoff streak ending...especially with Rivers as coach. Two picks is steep, but those picks will at best yield two decent supporting cast players, if Boston drafts well. The added bonus is shedding Jordan's salary from the payroll, and Jordan is one of two guys that Paul allegedly had beef with for being too goofy (the other one was Griffin).
I don't agree with FF though when he says KG is the best player in the deal - I don't think there is a best player in the deal per se. The primary reason you do this trade if you're LA is signing Rivers, who along with being as good if not better than the available coaches on the market, could also entice Paul to resign with LA. KG at most can serve in a sort of player-coach capacity, and may be able to teach Griffin a thing or two about developing a more diverse game.
I also think the deal is a win for Boston because, normally, you'd get nothing in return if your coach wanted to leave when his contract was up. And you typically don't get much in return for 37 year old players, even if they were once superstars. So for a coach who wants to go and an old player, you get two picks and an overpaid, but still youngish prospect. To me that's better than nothing. They're going to rebuild anyway so Jordan's salary will not be much of a burden since I assume the payroll will be low. At best he becomes an expiring contract if you can use in a trade down the road if he doesn't develop.
