Rick has put harsh specifics to a very reasonable thought

Do not re-sign Cutler unless he has a very good year (probably his best year)

I agree.

What parameters WOULD you put on a 31 year old QB in his last year?

I wouldn't put parameters on it at all, thats my point. I wouldn't give an ultimatum one way or the other. Let the season play out and see what happens. Then negotiate or make the decision to let him walk.

Rick, I'll answer your question when you answer the 2 you've already skipped over.

One of your questions seems to be "Why take any option off the table?". The answer is because the results just wouldn't be good enough. If he was 26 it's a different scenario but this is the peak of Jay Cutler. Those numbers aren't even that amazing given his age, and how many years he's been given in a Bears uniform, and what he will ask for knowing that some dumb team will overpay for him.

The other question seemed to be if you said that Jay Cutler should be resigned. The answer is no. Besides calling my thoughts stupid, you haven't said much at all.

What if Jay Cutler killed Bucky Chris, then would you give him a new contract?

Hopefully his next contract would be Frank.

Over 30 diabetic who smokes and is 2 or 3 solid concussions away from forced retirement.

Noisewater's idea to trade draft picks for Kirk Cousins seems like a good option after this season.

Tho if RGIII rushes back too soon and reinjures his leg, the Redskins won't be parting with Cousins.

At this point every quarterback is 2-3 concussions away from retirement.

Franchise tag is available, though.

Terrible thought process. The biggest factor is Cutler vs the other available options. If he's bad, and there are better options, sign that QB. If not, franchise Cutler.

Not really. Cost plays a major role. Why pay Cutler $20M when you can get the same or similar production from the Christian Ponder's of the world for less.

I would not give him a long term contract even if he plays great unless the Bears win the SB. I would use the tag.

Franchise him then trade him for some draft picks. If it's another failed uneven season from him,he will be Jeff George.
I've seen enough.

Yup. You aren't paying $20 million a year for this.

If he keeps it up, you have to consider signing him.

Jay Cutler is 25-2 against teams that were under .500.

Sounds like he beats the teams he is supposed to and his team lets him down in games against superior talent.

I still don't think he resigns either way. Would not be a smart business move for the Cutler family.

I think Jay is just lucky that about half the teams he plays have losing records.

His wife wants a Cali team. I see him in Oakland next season.

Did you read that or just make it up? I believe they live in Nashville during the offseason.
