I wouldn't put parameters on it at all, thats my point. I wouldn't give an ultimatum one way or the other. Let the season play out and see what happens. Then negotiate or make the decision to let him walk.

One of your questions seems to be "Why take any option off the table?". The answer is because the results just wouldn't be good enough. If he was 26 it's a different scenario but this is the peak of Jay Cutler. Those numbers aren't even that amazing given his age, and how many years he's been given in a Bears uniform, and what he will ask for knowing that some dumb team will overpay for him.

The other question seemed to be if you said that Jay Cutler should be resigned. The answer is no. Besides calling my thoughts stupid, you haven't said much at all.

Not really. Cost plays a major role. Why pay Cutler $20M when you can get the same or similar production from the Christian Ponder's of the world for less.

I would not give him a long term contract even if he plays great unless the Bears win the SB. I would use the tag.
