That's the point that gets lost in this too. If the stadium was empty, Alou still probably doesnt make that catch. He threw a fit so that the media and fans could have someone to blame for him not making the catch.

Does anyone really have any interest in watching the CSN "5 Outs" special? Who would want to relive this nightmare? I'll never forget this night. It was by far the worse night of my sports fan life, as I'm sure it was for most other Cubs fans.

Go ahead and deny it, but it is pretty apparent that Cub fans revel in being lovable losers. It is their identity similar to the Red Sox before Theo used another GMs work to lead them to a World Series. Remember all those overwrought pieces about The Curse of the Babe featuring guys like Dennis Leary? There was a void when they finally won and the Cubs happily filled it.

I do think they've lost their identity to a degree. For years it was a badge of honor, a test of character to be a Red Sox fan. You can laugh at that. After all, it's really just entertainment. After watching the show, I still don't get why Sosa can't be welcomed back into the fold. He roided up like many others. But he did genuinely want the Cubs to win it all, and you could argue he did more to make it happen than any other player the last 105 years. And he still seems to have a good attitude about everything.

He's more likable than most of the 2003 team. He always played hard for the Cubs, if the fans wanted more from him that's their loss. 3 60+ homer seasons, led the league in Runs and total bases 3 times and RBIs 2 times, and MVP of 98 where the Cubs would have been dead without him. He was their best player by a country mile, fuck fans that wouldn't welcome him back.
