You should change your filter everytime. Menards occasionally has Quaker State on sale for $2 a quart. Oil filter runs you $4 bucks. So, yes, generally cheaper to just go see a guy.

It's a whatever floats your boat deal. If you don't want to wait at a service station or deal with service stations you can do it yourself.

KS - I put it in a milk jug and throw it in the garbage.

My buddy in high school used to dump it down the sewer.

Most auto shops now actually HAVE to take in old oil at no cost to you.

So its about 20 dollars to do it yourself?

Thats still a lot cheaper than the 39.99 jiffy lube charges.

Not to mention the risk you take letting "mechanics" with 4 days experience touch your car

I'm mechanically uninclined, but I do change the oil on my motorcycle. My moto guy is crazy busy and really doesn't need the business, plus you have to wait for the oil temperature to cool before changing it, so it's easier to do it myself. I take the unused oil to my car guy and he handles it gratis.

I'm pretty sure all automotive shops are required to recycle it for you, but every time I try, they give dirty looks and make up excuses to why they can't take it (recycling containers full). I don't really blame them, to be honest.

What I do is leave it by their front door after they're closed.

Used motor oil is money for helping start a burn pile ablaze.

Next time just put it in the back of some random pickup truck, that's the ecologically responsible way.

Yeah, someone pointed that out once. I rarely posted for years and was pretty clueless about the board. I assumed the poster known as spmack was the white dude standing next to a Bulls player in his avatar.

There is a hazardous material recycling center in Naperville that takes everything from old batteries, electronics, oil, oil based paint, thermostats and light bulbs containing mercury, etc.

Many Jiffy Lube type places will take old oil, and recycle it. I have a buddy who works in a shop with an oil burning heater.

Or just pour it into the nearest river. The river will clean itself, according to Rush Limbaugh.

Years ago, my mother took her car to one of those places, and the "mechanic" cross threaded the plug in the oil pan. Fucking idiot.

I take my car to an MD after the engine runs out of oil and he prescribes antibiotics and chemo.

I swipe item, hit "finish and pay" and go to slide the card

CVS employee: WAIT! Its gonna ask you something! :o

Me: (Puzzled look....then screen says Do you want to bag the item?)

I hit No

CVS employee: NOW, you can swipe

Me: Im not a cashier, ya know?

CVS employeeExcuse me?

Me: Im not a cashier. I actually prefer the old way.

CVS employee: I understand sir. But right now they have me over here

Me: Oh I know its not your policy. I just dont like it. More jobs eliminated.

CVS employee Oh these things break all the time, they cant replace people

Me: You're a sweet kid. Thanks.
