I dont see what that has to do with the greatness of Jeffery's hands

Admittedly nothing. There was an earlier post about his place in the draft so had that in mind when I posted.

Oh, and the guy does indeed have great hands.

Vegan, you're one of the best sports posters on this site, but why so serious?

Stop and smell the roses. The Bears havent drafted a WR this good since Bush 1

I am as tough on Bears draft picks as anyone on this site. I'm not sure how to evaluate that draft two years out. They drafted a guy who has quickly reached the level of elite WR. That really cleans up a lot of mistakes, and admittedly those mistakes were very big with Mc Clellin, Hardin and Rodriguez. They also drafted Frey, who has been a decent nickel.

I agree on Jeffery, not so much on Vegan.

To be sure, Jeffery is the goods, and I'm glad that he's on the team (for both this year and next year). I'm just ruing the outlook of the 2012 draft class, which brings me to GD's point:

Jeffery being this good may allow us to better absorb the sting of busts like Hardin and Rodriguez, and the disappointment of Shea, but fair or not Emery has to hit more often than not in these drafts. Drafting better was one of the directives that led to his hire, and even if Frey turns out to be an unspectacular but solid player, missing out on impact players in rounds 1, 2-3 is going to hurt. It's already hurting this year with the lack of depth on defense, and for that I don't think we can forgive Emery for 2012. We'll see how he does moving forward, and it looks like 2013 may be an improvement.

I guess 2013 is an improvement in that some of his players will actually make it to a second year on an NFL roster. I have not liked what I have seen in Bostic and Greene has looked like an absolute buster. Long has been fine but as I have said repeatedly, a 1rd OG better be spectacular. I still have a lot of hope for Wilson.

Long as been better than fine.

I agree on Wilson, I think he can be a real nice player for them.

I think Bostic and Greene both look a hellava lot better with either DJ Williams or Lance Briggs on the field with them.

Long is tall, fast, and athletic. He should be a tackle, not guard. wasting him at guard.

explain why he should not be a tackle.

He probably will be a tackle long term. But their tackles have been pretty good this year as well. They needed help at guard and Long has done just fine. To say they are "wasting" him at guard is just stupid. The line is a lot better this year than last. Hardly a waste.

You don't draft a nice guard in the 1st round. As a one-year stopgap, fine. Not a good long-term solution. He doesn't really appear to be a good straight-ahead run blocker.

That is funny because the year before the gripe was the Bears did not take a fine guard in the 1st round.

He has done well in straight ahead run blocking.

You are grasping.

No I am not grasping. Dude has elite physical skills and could be game changing tackle. Or you can leave him at guard where his athleticism is wasted. We shall see what happens.

I think they're making great use of his athleticism. He's done a ton of pulling on run plays and delivering some solid blocks on those and upfield.

I don't see any hurry to get him to Tackle. It's not a huge need at this point and he could be a Pro-Bowl level Guard by next year. I'd take that.

Obviously I'm a bigger fan of him than you guys and think he could handle the more important position.
