Maybe Jay Cutler shouldn't have neglected to text Brian Urlacher when the Bears parted ways with their longtime star linebacker.
Urlacher, now an analyst for Fox Sports 1, was asked Tuesday on "Fox Sports Daily" whether Cutler should regain his role as Bears starting quarterback over Josh McCown when doctors clear him to play.
"I think Jay might be healthy right now," said Urlacher, who earlier this year noted that Cutler didn't contact him after his departure from the Bears. "If you watch him move around, and some of the film they have of him earlier this week in a pregame, he might be healthy right now."
As for who should be behind center for the Bears, Urlacher came down in McCown's corner.
"It's going to be awfully hard to take Josh out now the way he's playing," Urlacher said. "If you look at the numbers since he came in -- 13 touchdowns, one pick, they're 3-2 -- the yards are there, the wins are there, he's making great decisions with the football, and I know he's got great players around him.
Asked again if McCown should be the starting quarterback, Urlacher said, "In my opinion, he should be the guy, he should be the starting quarterback for the Bears. Even if Jay Cutler's healthy. You can't take a guy who's this hot out of the football game. If I was on that team, I would have a hard time with them taking him out. ... He's making all the right decisions and the football's going where it's supposed to go in that offense.
