Gimmie a break. He's a top 50 prospect. If Theo got a top 50 prospect in return for a 4/5th starter you Cub fans would be penciling him in for the 2015 All Star game.

And you would be posting what RFDC is and the world keeps spinnin

He was mentioned a lot.

Baseball Prospectus is so good at predicting the future, they knew he would be traded to the Sox and preemtively gave him a shitty scouting report.

It seems like they see this guy as a CF and leadoff hitter. I would like to see what kind of player De Aza could be with those responsibilities taken from him. I cannot imagine De Aza has the discipline to be #2 behind a base stealing threat. He would be a nice #9 in front of Eaton. That said, I don't want Viciedo to lose at bats to De Aza until at least half way through the season.

I could see a scenario where Viciedo busts out, Dunn is gone and Paulie bounces back resulting in him being the 2015 DH.

Not true.

Northside dan and rpb both are just as critical of the Cubs.

And what I said still stands. To give up a major league proven starter for a guy that is a huge question mark and very well maybe another Brian Anderson is a bad deal IMO. Maybe he will prove me wrong.

And my comment about Keyser is true as well. If the Cubs made this exact deal he would be shitting all over it. But because it is the Sox he is over the moon about it. It is just what he does. It is ashame too because when you can get him away from the fan boy stuff he actually has some real solid baseball thoughts.

good dolphin, I agree with you about De Aza making a good #9 hitter. Will be interesting to see what happens there. But if they keep De Aza I can only image what will happen to poor Keyser.

Sox take Cuban Adrian Nieto from Nats in Rule 5 draft. .280 in high A. like 23 years old or something. could make team if Flowers is not ready to go on opening day.

I think the Sox will try to work out a trade with the Nats because I don't see how they can carry him on the major league roster all season. Send them De Aza and an international bonus slot and call it a day.

If you're trying to change the style and character of the team, you're probably better off to keep DeAza and play him in left and bat him down near the bottom and trade Viciedo. Viciedo is more expensive and will likely bring significantly more in a trade. DeAza gives you another left-handed bat and you can work on his baserunning. At least there's something to work with. Viciedo is just another guy in a long line of slow-footed sluggers that so many Sox fans have been railing against. He's Carlos Lee without the batting eye.

I don't like DeAza, but I don't like Viciedo either. You want to get faster and more athletic, which one do you keep? You probably aren't moving them both right now. And Viciedo gets you a better return. I'd have no problem with both of them gone.

El Caballo was better than Tanks with the glove and the bat.

I don't think either of them have any trade value. DeAza ain't getting any better. Viciedo might possibly get better. He was hurt last year. I DOUBT he gets much better. There's a 10% chance. I'll take that gamble.

I don't know how much better he was with the glove, but that really shouldn't matter so much in left anyway. Lee was miles better with the stick. Different time though. The Sox kicked Ordonez and Lee to the curb and won a World Series. If you transported those two circa 2004 to the present, they're probably among the best five or six outfielders today.

Maybe. But the kind of power Viciedo has is in a lot shorter supply these days than it once was. I think he gets you a lot more back than DeAza.

At his age, Viciedo has value. Some team would take a flyer on him based on his 2012 numbers which were solid.

He was definitely brutal in center last year, but he was more than fine the year before that. I have to think he would be an elite defender playing left field everyday.

look at De Aza's numbers as a starter for the Sox. They are pretty good for a CF. On paper he is a good looking player...on paper.

Another move today with the DBacks

Addison Reed for 3B prospect Matt Davidson

Davidson is a 22 year old who played in AAA last year. Davidson, 23 in March, made his big league debut in 2013, slashing .237/.333/.434 with three homers in 87 plate appearances. The 2009 supplemental-rounder entered the 2013 campaign ranked as Baseball America's No. 88 overall prospect and MLB.com's No. 77 overall prospect. Davidson delivered on that praise by slashing .280/.350/.481 with 17 homers in 500 plate appearances prior to his promotion to the big leagues. He is controllable through the 2019 season and can't reach arbitration eligibility until at least the 2016-17 offseason.

They must be pretty confident in some of the other arms they have. They give up another guy who has shown he can pitch effectively at the majors for a guy who is question mark.
