Matt Forte may end the season with 2000 yards. I hope he has 2 more good years in the tank.

Figured we might as well get that out of the way as soon as possible. Wouldn't want anyone getting the wrong impression.

He is having a great season for sure. Sucks that its on this team that most likely can't do anything with it. Matt has alot of mileage on him too.

I disagree that Cutler's pocket awareness is better than McCowns. In fact, I think McCown's is far superior.

McCown is more calm, hangs in there, steps up into the pocket and releases accurate passes. Jay freaks out and throws off his back foot or bails out too early and throws on the run, most of the time leading to an over thrown pass.

Interceptions aren't everything? Is this a bit? Do you know that stats on wins and losses when a team wins the turnover battle? I'm not even going to look them up because it is self-evident.

Also, can we stop the whole "you don't like Jay Cutler because he's a jerk" thing, Sini? It's a stupid Dan Bernstein strawman that you have fallen for. I defended Cutler for years because I didn't think he had the tools around him to see his potential. It has become obvious to me now that, while that was partially true, he was also part of the problem.

The pass coverage on the Jeffery touchdown was probably the worst I have ever seen. The pass was stupid and bad, and yet somehow Jeffery came down with it. That was the game right there.

Amazing catch tho. Cutler better break Alshon off a piece of his signing bonus next year if this keeps up.

Alshon's ridiculous catches in previous weeks were much better hypothetically awful throws.

oh wow, the next ad hominem is calling me a bernstein clone/ALS/etc.... whatever. i know i'm right and i made a mistake engaging the issue again because en masse bears fans want a QB who won't lose a game as opposed to having one who can go out and win a game. c'est la vie.

anyways, there were two key plays in today's game that set up the win, in my humble/correct opinion of course

1) Up 10-3 @ the end of the first half, cleveland had the ball right around midfield with ~2-3mins left. on third down they had a WR 500% WIDE OPEN in the center of the field @ the bears ~40 going at full speed with nobody within 5 yards of him, but campbell made a horrible throw that ended up out too far in front of the WR, who still managed to get to the ball but then promptly dropped it. if that completion is made there's a chance he makes it to the endzone, otherwise they were going to put up more points and go into halftime up 13-3 or 17-3, and then they would get the ball to start the 2nd half. instead, they punted to the bears who got a nice devin hester return to midfield which sparked a wonderful drive that tied the game up at 10-10. that potential 10-14pt swing was huge in the grand scheme of things.

2) when the bears got the ball back with ~3-4mins remaining, it was crucial for them to at least have a drive that ate up all of the clock, because if it isn't obvious by now you can't put the game in the defense's hands and expect to win. after converting a first down or two forte gets stuffed for a ~3 yard loss on first down, causing cleveland to start using their timeouts. after a running play was stuffed on 2nd down, it was 3rd and 13 circa the bears ~35 with cleveland looking to get the ball back sans timeouts w/~2:30 remaining.

and that's where trestman showed some brilliance.

earlier in the game they tried one of those alshon end-arounds but it got stopped for a loss. your first thought is "ok tresty you've gone to the well too much with that one" but then later in the game they had a play where alshon was in motion looking to get the end-around but they faked it to him going right and pitched it left to forte who had a big 20-30 yard gash that was one broken tackle away from going to the house. well played. so on this crucial 3rd and 13 in a game where the bears had been chucking the ball around with ease (marshall took haden to the woodshed repeatedly until he literally broke today) they send alshon in motion again and you figure they're actually going to go back to the end around because it's worked so many times this year..... but no, it's the exact same playcall as before, with the fake to alshon and the pitch left to forte, and once again he gashes them for ~20-30 yards and a HUGE first down that completely demoralized the browns, who then turned around and gave up a 40yd blast to michael bush for a touchdown.

the calhones to call a fake end around pitch left that you've already showed the defense at the most crucial moment in teh game = DAS TRESTICLES (i hear spiegel started using my term and now it's passe.... smh) and that's why the bears won this game.... they kept the game out of the defense's hands and yeah, this offense has a chance to really take off now if cutler can start playing at even 75% of the level mccown was playing at.

cuz once again, mccown was playing the best football of his life and it was only keeping pace with cutler playing so-so football. the key is to get cutler playing at the high level mccown was playing at and then watch out.... this offense is a thing with marshall/alshon/forte.

Yeah those first few years probably shortened his career by a season or 2.

It was a bad pass. Defender misjudged it. It worked out so it really doesn't matter now.

can you vague that up a little bit? all of that detail is overloading my brain.... i can't comprehend it.

once again, instead of stats or tangible evidence we just get a "nuh uh....you must be crazy! i'm right"

what was so godlike about josh's 6 game run, which again off the top of my head it was 6+ games of 1809yds 13TD 1INT.... mccown was putting up 250-350yds with ~2TD every week, which is an ~18-22pt fantasy quarterback.... he averaged 18.2 fantasy points per week, whereas cutler's 1908yds of 13TD/8INT was good for 18.7 fantasy points per week.

so in terms of yards/scores/deductions-for-turnovers even with mccown's 5TD game (where, btw, that rushing TD was worth 2 more points than the passing one) they still had the same goddamn production. yes cutler threw more INTs, but evidently mccown had more fumbles and/or he just didn't do enough positive offensive things to get out ahead of cutler, even with his big 39.58pt game against the cowboys.

if you were saying that 6 game run was, say, peyton manning's first 6 games of this year where he jumped out to like 2000yds and 20TD, then you've got a point. but the basis of this magical 6 game run everyone keeps talking about, you know the 3-3 run where mccown lost to the rams and the vikings, was merely that mccown only threw 1 INT.

so basically you're saying that you want a game manager quarterback.... do you have a poster of trent dilfer in a baltimore ravens uniform on your wall? you don't want to have a bears quarterback that can go out and win you a game, you basically want a bears quarterback who does the most to prevent you from losing a game. you've said it yourself, just like others have, as the 13TD/1INT stats are being trumped as the be-all/end-all, even tho jay threw for more yards and just as many touchdowns when you include a game where he didn't even have a healthy functioning vagina.

dude, mccown did well for himself... he came out here and managed games well enough via getting the ball to two #1 WRs in large part because of an offensive line that kept him upright and not repeatedly running for his life. i'm grateful for that.... but mccown couldn't go out and win you games on his own.... the bears didn't win all those games because josh mccown was in there, they won because the offense as a whole got rolling and mccown did a good job of not shitting the bed.

and now that cutler's back, it's being made obvious that not shitting the bed = the most important thing a quarterback can do. you guys don't wanna take any risks to have a quarterback who can go out and win you games, if not playoff games, if not a superbowl.... you just wanna have some guy in there who will throw to the checkdown 75% of the time and only if they're wide open because OMFG HE DOESN'T GET INTS.....whatever. FTFY..... i'll roll the dice and take the downside to have a physically gifted quarterback who can go out there and win you a game when it's raining large black men in his shrinkydink pocket. i'll take the guy who can run for his life and commit to a scramble, but then look up and see martellus bennett wide open in the middle of the field with 2 defenders closing in on him and gun it to him right there on the spot while running at full speed. i'll take the QB who can still develop into a top-6 NFL QB if he finally gets a chance to have more than 1-2 years in a given system.....

and if that means i'm gonna get 13/8 as opposed to 13/1 so be it....especially when cutler had a better record than mccown (now 5-3.... altho one of those losses is the detroit loss where he wasn't at full strength) cuz in the end it's all about winning ballgames. and cutler's gotta be solidly over .500 as a bears QB... he started off 7-9 but then led them to 11-5/NFC-champ-game, and then was 7-3 the next season, and then 10-5 last year.... and this year he's 5-3?

40-25.... cutler's led the bears to a 40-25 record when he's in there, and we wanna literally get rid of him and let him walk in FA so we can bring in a .500 quarterback only because he doesn't throw INTs.

again, GROW A SET. give me a quarterback who has the capability to go out and WIN games as opposed to the guy who's more likely to not be the reason that you lose a game.... cuz if all of these INTs matter so much, how the fuck does jay have a 40-25ish record as a bears QB? you've got a 40-25 QB and you're pining for a .500 QB.

at least in your case there's an excuse as you're mister purdue and since your team no longer has a purdue QB you've wanted cutler to fail horribly since day one because when it comes to brick it's all about one thing: being right. fuck everything else.

sorry dude, you're wrong and biased. and again i stupidly took the bait and had to babble but whatever..... someday down the road you'll be able to look up these threads and see that i was ahead of my time and that, indeed, i was always right about this. when the actual team agrees with me you might wanna admit that i'm on to something, no?

Most rushing yards in a game this year.

Now the offense is finally working. In theory.

When people say things like this they aren't worth responding to.

I scanned your post, and let me point out McCown is 3-2, and Cutler is 5-4.

I'll preface this by saying McCown is not that good. But, Cutler has never had a stretch games like McCown had. Some guys just fit and some don't.

Who is McCown in this story? Fabrizio? That kinda fits.

I can see B-Rick as Billy Zane in this scenario. Always snubbing Leo/Cutler and finally resorting to recklessly shooting his pistol at him.

Not me, man. I just went for people I thought were attractive. I'm married to the least baddest boy ever.

I'm sad he didn't turn out to be what I wanted him to be. Grid or SSE posted this and it's about right

Sini, you're basically hanging your whole argument on "Jay is better with a bad line and/or against a dominant pass rush"

That's not a strong enough case and it's debateable.

And yes, Interceptions DO = Everything in this NFL. That much we know.

Jay will ALWAYS make bad decisions because that's who Jay is.

Don't worry. The Bears will have a new man for you who will treat you better soon.
