Eagles up 1, Eagles used last time out, NO has ball inside the 20.

FG from inside the 20 is a 97% in the NFL.

Arent your odds better if you let them score and at least you get a shot at getting the ball back?

Why dont coaches do this?

New orleans is not throwing the ball. They arent running outside the tackles.

If they walk in, you get the ball with 1+ mins left.

Instead you give NO a FG try from 17.

I will take the ball with 1 min left and my chances.

Especially since the Saints have already lost a couple of games in the last minute this year.

I guess Chip isn't a genius after all

Even Lovie Smith could beat the Saints at home in the cold.

Why would NO even take the score? Just dive 5 yds and run clock

Once you re out of TOs you're pretty fucked

After the 2 Min warning, whats the plan? Hope Brees fumbles the snap?

The Eaglo dont have a timeout?

Really thinking they miss the 15 yard chip shot?

I'm saying The Saints wouldn't take the free score. They'd be dumb to take it if they were able to bleed the clock down to a last minute chip shot

I agree with the idea but I don't think saints would take bait

If you're going to take that approach it's best to just onside the kick if you don't trust your defense.

But they ran the ball twice with RB's...and the Eagles tackled them.

Maybe the RB would stop before he went in, but they had runs for 5 and 6 yards.

Brees would lay down, but why even tackle the new Orleans ball carrier?

Well they might as well have tried it

Thats the point.

Yet, they didnt even consider it. Tackle tackle tackle.

Why? Why? Why?

Whats amazing is the announcers never talk about this, like it is a taboo subject the NFL doesnt want to hear about

I was yelling the same thing at the screen. Let 'em score up by one. Get control of the clock back! Fuck! What a helpless feeling that all was.

i think the let them score is only going to work if its a goaline situation... otherwise the saint RB probably would have just fallen down inside the ten to run clock.

with the ball at the 20 yard-line, i would by trying to hold the line still hope the kicker the saints just signed off the street less than a month ago chokes on a 37 yarder

3-4 times brees did a QB sneak on 3rd and short and got 3 yards, you;d think after the 2nd time the eagles would have been ready for it

Maybe GB should let them score here.

OK, maybe, but you dont know if you dont try.

anyone that replies to me with that answer is basically giving up.

Today the theory that SF would have just fallen down is bullshit. Kapernick would have run into the endzone if you let him. OPf course I dont know that, but the result of you tackling him or Gore is almost 98% that they will make the FG inside of the 20 Yard line.

Granted it would be unconventional, the league might even fine everyone involved.

HIKE:

GB D players, stand up and move out of the way.

SF players block...but then Gore falls to the ground?

Here is another twist on that? At what point do the refs blow the whistle?

everyone that tries to explain to me that the coaches go over that stuff with the players, not to kill the clock by running out of bounds might not remember a Bears game in Denver a few years ago, that the Bears win if they just stay in bounds. They didnt? Why not?

I think in the NFL it is the smart play to let them score if they will take it virtually every time. College some of the time and high school almost never.

Is Obama behind this grand conspiracy?

Like I told you on twitter, the announcers mention it often. You just want to believe what you want to believe.

Just because Philly is trying to let the Saints score, doesn't mean they will do it. Sean Payton is a pretty smart cookie.

If the Saints think that, they could tell there running back if they let you, go down at the 1, still have to make the field goal.

The announcers dont talk about it at all.

I heard Collinsworth say it once jokingly and that was it.

So if Payton is so smart, is Kelly that dumb then? Does there need to be a ' shown effort'. Are you telling me Philly cant help themselves but try to tackle guys?

Step out of the way, let them go to the endzone. If they stop at the one, so be it.

Its like not trying for the deep throw or a lateral play when you have nothing to lose.

I agree with BF. But coaches don't do it because it if backfires (which it most likely will), the coach will get the blame for his strategic move failing. If they let New Orleans attempt the field goal, the coach can just say, "Well we tried, and couldn't stop them".

If Philly lets them score, and they lose the game, the coach's move is the headline after the game. Coaches don't want that. Philly made the safest move, even though it was the wrong move in that situation.
