Kings magically become good, but not playoff good. Same with Bobcats. Bulls also tank and finish in lottery,

It would require the Kings to get hot and stay out of the lottery basically.

1. The Bulls pick if they make the lottery
2. Charlotte pick if they miss the playoffs and end up with any pick after 10.
3. Cleveland (via Sacto) pick is they miss the playoffs and end up with any pick after 12 (so basically just missing playoffs as well)

So a lot of IFs that are not likely. Got it.

They will be lucky to get that Kings pick in the first round, it will drag out til it magically becomes a 2nd rounder. (Which I still do not quite understand.)

The NBA is so obnoxiously byzantine when it comes to player-personnel stuff. It's like they gave some accountants some mescaline and locked them in a room.

It is likely they will have 2 (Bobcats and theirs).

Deng was a glue guy. He really did a lot to hold this team together. His defense, scoring, rebounding, and passing were all above average and he always hustled. Thibs cannot be happy to see a guy who was a great leader like Deng was, traded. That said, they had to make the deal and I agree with it. Trading him when he was playing real well and was healthy, got them a nice return and saved them millions. This deal seems to assure that Rose's statement about not closing the door on a return for the playoffs this season, is something we can ignore. This also gives Jimmy Butler the starting spot at the position he's best suited to fill. I wish Luol Deng the best of luck and hope he can stay healthy and get the big contract he has worked so hard to earn. I'm fine with the fact it will be coming from another team though.

So we need Charlotte to play worse but not bad enough to get a top 10 pick?

The 3rd one is the one that seems really confusing. It is based on Sacramento or Cleveland? It is based on Sacramento and they need to play better in order for the Bulls to get that pick, yes?

It's reported that Deng turned down a 2 year, 30 million dollar extension shortly before this deal was struck. That's not great money by any means, but I'm kinda surprised they made that offer.

Turns out Bulls and Deng were in contract talks at last minute. Deng turned down $30 million for three, thus convincing Bulls he was leaving

Where are the lottery picks? I thought the picks were protected from being lottery.

An offer of just 10 million a year for a 2 time All-Star, having another good season, seems to me like more of a gesture than a real offer. They are probably glad he turned it down.

From what I understand this isn't a great trade, but it's not really a bad one either. It's good for JR because the Bulls wont have to pay the tax this season. But the picks we got are going to end up being pretty meaningless and we were letting Deng go anyway. Im sure the Bulls wanted a better offer but none were there. And Im sure Steve is correct that the offer was made just so they could say they made Deng an offer. Hard for him to accept a 3/30 contract when some dumbass team will pay him 4/50 this summer.

Deng is kind of caught in-between being an above average player but not really a star
10 million is isn't insane by any means, but i'm not sure i'd want him on my team for too much more than that . 13-15 mil ? no thanks

Agreed. He's good enough to get paid $12M+/year by someone, but not good enough to be worth that much, especially with the current CBA.

That is how I am seeing this as well. People seem excited about the draft picks, but they seem like they will be nothing at best. But I guess I should know by now that Nas is going to Nas.

I thought the Cavs would actually be good this year, but they're awful. Maybe they are tanking again for another #1 pick. Gotta sweeten the pot for the inevitable return of Lebron.

It saved Jerry a lot of money though.

I wish all Chicago teams would intentionally lose.

 Oh Brick.

The thing that really pisses me off about it is that the Bulls will probably still sneak into the playoffs in the horrible East and not get a lottery pick.

well they might be good if Irving hadn't been injured and if Anthony Bennett was even remotely contributing....is it too soon for the BUST label ?
And Tristan Thompson looked pretty good last year and seems to have regressed

Anthony Bennett needs to go to the D-League. He obviously wasn't ready to make the jump to the pros. Not sure what playing 10 minutes a game for the Cavs is going to do for his development.

Dion Waiters fighting with Irving and Thompson hasn't helped either.

yeah, good point...there has been all this 'oh my god' about Rondo playing in the D-League to rehab
i imagine it would be equally as shocking (not to mention embarrassing) if Bennett was sent down
i mean what if he was sent down and did shitty in the D-League ?

I think the answer is to that is no. He's a bust for sure. I think a better question might be: Is it too soon for the worst #1 pick in NBA history label?

agree, from what i heard had they stayed in the tax this year the penalties would have been more severe since it would have been the 2nd year in a row they'd be in the tax... be getting out of the tax this year the penalties restart if in a future year they end up in the tax again...

Im actually disapointed they wont be able to take a chance on bynum... if someone could convince him to give a crap about basketball he could possibly be dominant
