I can agree with that, however, I would re-classify the observations as being that he was a forerunner of a game-change in the medium.

By your definition, Joe Rogan and Dennis Leary would not be considered "standup comics".

Rogan is not good on stage.

I disagree wholeheartedly with this.

I could see you loving Rogan.

I like his podcast in small doses. A lot better than the standup

I'm not sure anyone has made definitive statements, but strong opinions are obviously the most prevalent on subjective topics. Let someone tell you that Nas is a terrible rapper. I doubt you'd respond by saying "I respect that opinion. Art is subjective." Idk though, maybe you would.

Fair enough but there isnt a ton of rappers out there saying Nas sucks like they say Leno is great.

Maybe he's just not your cup of tea.

Do you like Seinfeld's standup?

All due respect, but in my opinion your tastes are unreliable at best. I tried my hardest to coax a giggle out of that Colin Quinn crap you put up, and I got nuthin'.

Ok. That's two guys we disagree on. But the stuff I put up about Quinn is just one long running Twitter joke. You might like his stand up. Maybe not.

But I think even Rogan's biggest fans would say he's better in the podcast form.

Actually, I find most comedians better in that form. I think thats why Seinfeld's coffee show is doing so well. Off the cuff comedy is the best

And I think we just solved the mystery as to why Leno sucks as a host.

Are you suggesting that you are a better judge of standup comedy than Seinfeld?

Past the age of 50 or so, anyone labeling Carlin as "standup comic" doesn't know what they're talking about because his aim wasn't to be funny ... this ground has been covered before ... he was far more insightful than he was funny.

Are you really suggesting satirists don't aim to be funny?

And yes, if Seinfeld truly believes that Leno is the best standup comic of all time, then he is a terrible judge of comedy.

I'm saying, quite clearly, that Carlin's primary goal was not to be funny ... it was his vehicle of choice, but not his intended purpose.

Your delusion about Seinfeld is, oddly enough, funny.

To your first point, it sounds like you are just making shit up at this point. Carlin was a classical satirist. Of course he wanted to be insightful as well as funny. You're trying to act like those are mutually exclusive.

To your second, want to be more specific? I think Seinfeld is a terrible judge of comedy if he thinks Leno is actually the best comic in the history of comedy. You're acting like it's unprecedented for someone to be a terrible judge of talent in an area where they once(or still do) excelled as a performer. Maybe you haven't followed Isiah Thomas' or Matt Millen's post-player career.

I have no idea what Thomas or Millen have to do with anything; I frankly don't want to know.

I'm not trying to get shitty, I'm just saying that for you have said in multiple posts that because you disagree with Seinfeld that he's therefore inarguably incorrect which is just presposterous. Saying you disagree is fine; saying he therefore doesn't know what he's talking about is just absurd.

I've never watched Leno's stand up. I cant imagine why I would search it out based on how awful and unfunny he is on The Tonight Show. Seinfeld has gotten less funny to me as the years go by. I've tried to watch the new interview thing he is doing and it just does nothing for me. Not funny.

EDIT: Seinfeld the person/comedian has gotten less funny. The old Seinfeld show is still hilarious.

I haven't seen it but I can see Leno being more funny on stand up. He was ok on Letterman early days and his stand up gives more freedom than the older tonight show audience and FCC. Like Bob Saget I was like holy shit this is the guy from that family show.

Another example of money turning a guy into a douchebag. I liked the Jay Leno that would show up with beef sandwiches and shoot the shit with Steve & Garry on the radio. That Leno has been dead for 30 years!

Agreed the person that has the audacity to disagree becomes the target. The viewpoint he brings is customarily ignored and he becomes the target. It's an interesting tactic yet easily foreseen

I'm ready to fight that one. Give him a little help and he's ready to roll. It's hard to call a guy a loser that has made it to the playoffs every year that he has been in the league. Lebron can't say that. Hasn't won anything and to be honest I don't think he will before he retires. I don't think that Charles Barkley is a loser nor Dan Marino either. Winning in a lot of cases is product of who you play with. That is my basic argument on the Carmelo front. Lebron James ran to play with one top five the other a top ten player in order to get a ring. He was getting bumped in the second round of the playoffs and he saw that he could not win with that collection of bums. Durant won't win anything without Westbrook does that make him a loser also?
