there isn't anything to do around there anyways
au contraire mon frere, one of my bonafide "record spots" is a few mins up ashland (~15min walk) in dusty groove. it's due north of lake street roughly ~2-3 blocks south of division (on the lefthand side if you're heading north up ashland from lake street) and if you happen to collect rap records (*stares at e-moo*) you'll be able to find some great stuff ranging from the classics (treacherous three anyone?) to the hipster junk (jedi mind tricks, imu?). hell, that's the place where i nabbed both the organized konfusion self-titled LP regular version ($15.99ish) and the white label version ($9.99) and then the next week i was all kinds of LOL when i saw that they were selling another copy of the regular version of the organized konfusion self-titled LP for $50 (which makes me wonder if the one i got was a 2nd pressing or something, but i checked it out on discogs and the one i got seems to be an original pressing. not to mention you'd figure the white label extended version would be rarer, let alone more worthwhile cuz having the instrumental to
who stole my last piece of chicken? is in and of itself worth some $$$, maybe even the ~$33.
(btw man, as i play that in the background now holy shit that beat slaps)
that's also the place where i was once forced to make an unholy decision between the pharoahe monch internal affairs LP and the blackalicious A2G EP. i went with the monch cuz i know that rawkus is out of business and that internal affairs / simon says 12" is beyond out of print and not even on iTunes because monch/record-label never cleared that godzilla sample so apple won't touch that with a 10 foot pole (unless monch/label have worked something out with apple in the last year or two)
saying no to blackalicious A2G = holy fuck what the hell is wrong with me because
this is arguably the weakest song on there, or no wait there's another one between deception and
alphabet aerobics (cut chemist 2 1/2min workout)] that's one of those nice happy "god bless all y'all let's raise up the community with this song" songs and yeah. whatever. yeah and a2g itself is technically weak too considering alphabet aerobics is some heavyweight shit.... you ever heard that song where the guy raps the alphabet on a flagrantly cut chemist beat that keeps getting faster and faster? yeah it's that one. fucking awesome. even off the top of my head i can remember UNIVERSAL / UNIQUE UNTOUCHED / UNADULTERATED: THE RAW UNCUT and just think about all of my fist in the air shit there.
yeah dont mind me (as y'all often don't) i just have these memories tied into various places and yeah.... good life, y'all.
