That's a bad linebacking unit. Briggs will be 34, Williams 32, and Bostic/Shea have no idea what they're doing.

I concur. I hope they view him as insurance and liable to be cut in training camp. Can you use a wheelchair on the field? A motorized one?

There's potential upside in the Bostic/Shea battle IF one of them wins the job and runs with it, but both are playing new positions from last year and there's no guarantee in either adjusting (probably more true in Shea's case). I don't have much worry with getting another season out of Briggs. Williams is a legitmate concern given that he has barely played in the last 2 seasons. There is youth at in this group so they have a few building blocks if things fall in their favor. Barring something unexpected though, they have 5 LB's (including K.Greene) on the roster once Williams re-ups.

Are you referring to Williams? If they resign him, he's the likely staring MLB, and I don't think there's much competition for that job. That could be ok for a year, but there's no reason to think a depenedable backup won't be needed at some point.

I like Bennett but I'm not sure that he's worth $8.5 million.

I've grown to give old players 0% trust. After 10 years of taking hits, shoveling in HGH, shooting up Toradol and being old I think they burn out more so than fade away.

It's rolling the dice when you're depending on players past 30 (outside of the QB spot primarily). Sometimes, players hit the end quickly. The Bears offensive line after the Super Bowl season faded fast. Peppers appears to be nearly done. Tillman couldn't finish a game last season before his injury knocked him out for the season. Briggs missed most (or around 1/2) of 2013 and Williams hasn't played much now for 2 seasons. There are warning signs with both, but the defense has too many holes to fill in one off-season. Even a great draft won't produce more than 3 starters realistically and free agency will fill a few of their holes, but they are going to depend on a few of these guys for at least another season. At this time next year, LB could be a top need for the Bears.

The Peppers contract is killing the Bears. The day the Bears signed him I said that it was stupid money & would come back to haunt the Bears & here we are. I wanted Bennett, but what I said then about Peppers applies now as well. The Bears cant really afford to throw too much money at one player because they have so many needs to fill.

Chester Taylor, Michael Bush, Marion Barber, Brandon Manumaluena...all worse than Peppers. We know you hate big eared black men, but Peppers was an absolutely dominant force his first couple years on the Bears.

Those guys didn't make $14 million per year & have as big of an impact on the cap as Peppers contract does. Did the Bears win the Super Bowl with Peppers & I missed it? I will forever be of the opinion that the Bears made a huge mistake giving one player as much money as they gave to Peppers, when they had so many positions that needed to be upgraded. I still cant believe that Phillips & the McLaskeys approved his contract.
