Anthony Rizzo would have a lot less hits if he had faced pitchers that are harder to get hits on.

Junior Lake hit balls further than Abreu this year, but that doesnt get him anymore runs, even withn Franks Personally Witnessing Abreu CRUSHING it.

RPB, I'm not the one who brought up the length of HRs. Maybe the PGA should just start giving every tournament win to Bubba Watson because he has the longest drives.

My guy Mike Morse hits long Home Runs. That guy crushes it! BP at Wrigley I think he took 4 in a row on to Waveland. Very very underrated guy! Tremendous power

Oh, hey. Don't confuse where I'm at in this discussion.

Abreu has been better. But Rizzo is also really good, and I feel comfortable betting on Rizzo's history than Abreu's short history.

And I think Steve Stone is dead wrong. Abreu will never be far superior when looking at the two players as a whole.

That was the original argument. But Rizzo's superior play has shifted the goalposts to whether he's better. Hint: He is.

So Rizzo is never going to be a great hitter, but he will do better than 23 HR and 80 RBI. per Stone today.

And only from the Wisdom of Steve Stone could you know that getting some RH power behind Rizzo would help him.

You mean the years of professional baseball he played in Cuba?

You also thought the ceiling for Brett Jackson was Mike Trout. How many MLB games has Jackson played since you made-- and stuck to-- that statement? About 25?

BigFan wants Bob from Niles to be the baseball analyst.

So, Bob, what do you think of Rizzo?

Uh, I dunno.

not reading the article after the first line.

Abreau isn't a young player.

Abreu had a better April. Let's all stop blowing each of the first basemen and start complaining about how both managers are giant piles shit and should be fired immediately.

Just so we can laugh at you later, can you define what you mean by "far superior"?

Since it seems like the popular choice in this thread, how much higher of an OPS would Abreu need to be "far superior"?

I cant speak for IMU, but when I heard the quote originally I figured about 100 points of OPS

But wait, do you believe Abreu is far superior now? Or is it close?

And if it's close why are you assuming Abreu will pull away?

Trade Rizzo for 2-3 promising young players and sign FA Kendrys Morales.

Why is it only decent starting pitching gets "flipped". As you can see by most of the Cubs losses, the only reason they are in any game is from decent to excellent starting pitching.

Because pitching is in way more demand than first baseman.

So the Cubs couldn't flip Rizzo for anything? I doubt it.

jimmy you make no sense. You get mad when they trade a guy like Maholm but then you want them to trade Rizzo...

100 points? That means there are only 3 players in the whole league that are "far superior" to Anthony Rizzo and Jose Abreu. That seems like quite a high bar to set.
rogers park bryan wrote:

I don't think "far superior" is fair yet. Superior probably would be. I'm putting more weight into the fact that Abreu is on pace for nearly 60 home runs than you seem to be though.
rogers park bryan wrote:

Obviously, I think there will be some fall off for Rizzo.

Sure they could get something for him. Pitching is still in demand.

First base is probably the least sought after position though. Its where a lot of teams put the guy who can hit but not field.

So, now that a young guy is showing some signs of coming thru you immediately want to trade him?

I haven't watched enough Cubs games to know about Renteria, but Ventura has not had a good season thus far.
