I agree.

Keep getting dem checks, Jerry.

Bulls would spend more if they were allowed to put up more signs.

Gotta make a HUGE cash flow profit.

I think it's really not that hard to figure out. Jerry looks at a big profit as a win. Especially now with the Bulls as he has won Championships with the best player ever. To Jerry, winning an NBA ring is not as good as making a huge profit. Even more important than the profit, is the projected long term cash flow projections, either met or surpassed. Thats the league Jerry is playing in. The basketball thing is now secondary. Of course they always have to be really good to attain his goals, they just dont have to be the best at the risk of being the worst.

Simmons is wrong. They were prepared to sign LBJ in 2010. Maintaining a team with Rose, Noah, and LBJ would have presumably raised roster costs every year - something they seemed willing to do.

He needs to pocket more money to offset the poor attendance for the Sox.

Were they any worse after giving Deng away? I didn't notice any difference.

Jerry has always been willing to go over the cap for great players. He was willing to do it for Kobe in 2007 and LeBron and Wade a few years later. He just won't go over the cap like he did in 2012 without having a chance to win a championship.

Does he consult with bernstein to find out if the team has a chance to win a championship?

Yes, but he doesn't consult Dan on which wealthy old bigots he's allowed to be friends with.

I think he realizes having the best player in the NBA gives you a great chance to win it all. As well as having 2 top 10 players.

It's never that simple. Right now we have a team with two top 10 players about to get swept by a team with none.

The majority of the time the team that has the best player or 2 top 10 players will win it all.

The Bulls won because they had a coach who wasn't willing to look past this year and do what most coaches would have done in the same situation.

They probably wanted to tank. It just wasn't going to work unless they fired the coach.

Literally dozens, if not hundreds, of players. They've been in the luxury tax once, ever. Compare that to NY, LA, NJ, Dallas and it's clear Bill is right.

As I said, it's not that simple. You need 8 guys to win a title. Two won't do it.

Prematurely celebrating, huh? It will be 2-2 by next week. The OKC SA series will eventually validate the NBA's star theory.

Wasn't San Antonio up 2-0 a couple years ago in the WCF, and then lost 4 straight to OKC?

I agree that he wont and he shouldnt, but it is all just part of the business model.

The one thing he wont do is try and build a one year winning team. Cap or no cap, the plan is to build a team that sustains winning. I didnt say wins champsionships, but sustains winning and keeps his UC filled. Thats the plan.

It is even more the plan now with a 100,000 UC expansion on the table for a full entertainment center. Bowling, movies, Bad fried food, etc.

So going for it, comes at the cost of having to break it down quickly in this case and that is not part of the plan.

Right. SA is better now than it was then and OKC doesn't have Ibaka(to get lucky as fuck and go 11-11 in game 5). This series is ova!

'Dozens' is difficult enough to believe; 'hundreds' is just plain dumb.

The real tragedy about the Boston bombing was that Simmons wasn't near the finish line live-tweeting ....

This is becoming a pet peeve of mine. Do people like Simmons and Bernstein seriously expect sports organizations to be truthful? Are they supposed to come out and admit they're tanking? That would be absurd.

Deadspin, too. :(

If Bud Selig's commissionership were a heist movie, we'd now be at the part where the thieves were gathered in a dimly lit room to count out the loot, and Chicago White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf would be the one with a gun in his hand, telling everyone to back away from the table slowly.

I need Deadspin to explain to me why they're not friends with Jerry Reinsdorf.

Ooh, speaking of that, delicious gossip in the comments:

Quote:
I used to work with an associate / pal of Reinsdorf's...after being party to some of their calls & emails (professionally, *not* eavesdropping), let's just say Jerry Reinsdorf and Donald Sterling see eye to eye on a lot of things.

YA THINK

Quote:
The weird thing is, Sterling's POV on minorities and women is really like a lot of wealthy self-made businessmen I've crossed paths with (Reinsdorf included) - it's not "I despise all of them" (how could you own an NBA team if you did?), it's "I view them as a lower class of person." And from what I've seen, Sterling represents the rule, not the exception.

Yup. Naive, dumb, and lazy thinking. That being said, the Philly owner recently acknowledged tanking, and quite unapologetically so. He may represent a new generation of younger owners who recognize the futility of hiding or misrepresenting otherwise obvious information in an era characterized by the ease of access to such information.

Yes I heard that. It would be refreshing. It's just funny how Bernstein and Simmons take everything said so literally and simultaneously claim to be some kind of sports intellectuals. It doesn't occur to them that a team probably wouldn't come out and say that (at least for now)?
