I think it's really not that hard to figure out. Jerry looks at a big profit as a win. Especially now with the Bulls as he has won Championships with the best player ever. To Jerry, winning an NBA ring is not as good as making a huge profit. Even more important than the profit, is the projected long term cash flow projections, either met or surpassed. Thats the league Jerry is playing in. The basketball thing is now secondary. Of course they always have to be really good to attain his goals, they just dont have to be the best at the risk of being the worst.

Simmons is wrong. They were prepared to sign LBJ in 2010. Maintaining a team with Rose, Noah, and LBJ would have presumably raised roster costs every year - something they seemed willing to do.

Jerry has always been willing to go over the cap for great players. He was willing to do it for Kobe in 2007 and LeBron and Wade a few years later. He just won't go over the cap like he did in 2012 without having a chance to win a championship.

The Bulls won because they had a coach who wasn't willing to look past this year and do what most coaches would have done in the same situation.

The one thing he wont do is try and build a one year winning team. Cap or no cap, the plan is to build a team that sustains winning. I didnt say wins champsionships, but sustains winning and keeps his UC filled. Thats the plan.

It is even more the plan now with a 100,000 UC expansion on the table for a full entertainment center. Bowling, movies, Bad fried food, etc.

So going for it, comes at the cost of having to break it down quickly in this case and that is not part of the plan.
