Good on you giving the scallops and mussels a try. Lobster is all kinds of wonderful.

i like nearly all fish & shellfish, but for some reason i've never liked scallops- either kind. tried repeatedly. it was one of my ex's favorite foods, so she used to try and get me to eat them but it just tastes like a giant sponge to me

I'm surprised to hear that.

I would have bet the falling out would have come between you and Sartre.

They're touchy. Gotta be cooked just perfectly - or they turn into a giant sponge.

I'm a huge seafood guy, and if cooked right, scallops may be my favorite.

I could eat raw oysters (or fried or a variety of other preps) by the dozens.
However -one side of family has a "delicacy" they make around holiday time that they call "scalloped oysters" and it's terrible. Completely not edible. Tastes like hot snot in a pot.

I'm not real big on the smaller ones that are used in pastas and whatnot, but give me one huge scallop that's been grilled or seared to perfection as part of a three or four piece platter and I dig it.

They're nice. I love fish most of all, though. Catfish, salmon, cod, perch, s'all good.

Very few of them in Chicago. Some of the high end restaurants get their stuff flown in directly from Hawaii, Maine, etc.

Salmon is probably my favorite amongst the "affordable" fish....i mean sure i'd rather eat sea bass or halibut but that's not really feasible most nights . and cheap fish like tilapia and catfish can definitely be tasty , but pretty much have 0 nutritional value

Peapod carries a brand of salmon called Verlasso , that is supposedly a more sustainable/organic method of fishing..it's still farm raised but it does really taste a lot better than the cheapo farm raised stuff Jewel or whoever carries, and not expensive at all

The fish place I've been going to for a while now hit on a run of wild Sockeye Salmon, so I was really excited to get some of that a few weeks ago. Didn't really do much for me though (I think I should just leave that for other people to smoke...was too dry for my liking)...I find the farm raised stuff I've been getting to be much better for the planking.

I just don't trust farmed fish. Don't know what they feed those things. Shrimp from Asia is always testing positive for illegal drugs. blech. I'd rather eat the oil soaked stuff from the Gulf.

yea, sockeye is good too but 1) you have to watch the bones and 2) as you say, it can dry out a lot quicker

it's in season now though

King salmon...now that's the shit

They feed them pellets made from other fish...so they aren't getting the variety in their diet that their wild counterpart would...that being said, I say eating farm raised salmon is better than eating no salmon.

Cut out the middle man and just eat the pellets.

Actually wouldn't cutting out the middle man mean I'm eating the fish that would have been turned into pellets?

Mrs. Scorehead & I eat out alot at Japanese Hibachi restaurants & have tried many different ones, but Shinto in Naperville on Rt. 59 is in a league by themselves. Great Hibachi & Sushi along with great service & a very nice modern restaurant. We went here last Thursday & loved it so much we went back tonight with my Daughter & found out that on Tuesdays they offer a $12 full Hibachi meal & $5 Martinis. Mondays all rolls are 1/2 price, & Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 all appetizers are 1/2 price. They probably have about 20 Hibachi tables & the place was packed full by the time we left & if you don't get here early enough you will need a reservation. For many years our Tuesdays have been spent at The Country House on Tuesday nights for the .50 cent Oysters, but from now on we will be here.
