I really don't understand all the rules and intricacies of the salary cap in that league, but an expiring contract does have value in certain situations, right?

Teams are willing to trade for them midseason when they realize their season is over, but nobody wants to take on a bad contract at the start of the season.

unless you know you are going to suck, take a pick and an expiring deal so a team can clear money and you get 2 or even 3 first round picks.

I will agree it's not the preferred deal, usually only done by a 1st or 2nd year GM that has the time on his deal to make such a move

Didn't the Bulls just sign Kirk Hinrich?

Channing Frye just got a 4-Year/$32 Million deal from Orlando. Hinrich is probably getting the minimum.

Lakers picked him up off of waivers. Those fuckers wouldn't do a sign and trade for him but now they turnaround and claim him.

I was thinking about this a bit. Couldn't a team just claim him at his full salary level? That way they just acquired a huge expiring contract going into the next off-season, and gave up nothing at the same time.

I don't think they're allowed to trade him.

I suppose they could, but at this stage of the game the Lakers were basically bidding against themselves. I suppose Charlotte was in the conversation recently but I'm guessing the money they dropped on Stephenson took them out.

So Lakers pay the whole ride? Or is there a minimum claim salary?

Whatever they bid. The Bulls would pay the rest.

What game does Nicholson lose it and yell at Boozer to shut the fuck up and get a rebound?

Boozer will be quick to tell Kobe to get the rebound on his good leg.

$3.25MM for Boozer. The magnanimous Jerry Reinsdorf will still pay about $12MM. I just hope people can tell the real story. They've got computers right there.

Wow.
Wow.

Good god.

It's almost funny but it's not.

At least this isn't my money.

Isn't it more like $13M? At any rate, it'd be nice if the "Reinsdorf is cheap" meme would die, but of course, there's no evidence in the whole world that could ever combat it. He's Jewish!
