You know how this works. It has nothing to do with what position the guys play.

Well, given that Sox fans are more interested in World Series titles than Division titles, you could argue that the pitcher who can go up to 3 times in a 7 game series has more value than "once every 5 days".

Can someone give me a comparison of Jeter's 1st 3 years of defensive stats vs Castro?

I don't really care about offense if my shortstop doesn't know how many outs there are.

Offense is literally 20 times as important as fielding

I disagree when it comes to shortstop, but ok...cool.

Let me amend what I said.

The numbers suggest....offense is 20 times as important.

And regardless of the overall vaule you're right, SS is pretty important as far as defense goes

Well, it's a guy who records about 20 outs every 5 days vs. a guy who bats about 20 times every 5 days. It's probaby pretty similar in importance.

Tough call, I would take Sale..Castro is a butcher with the glove and will not be a SS in 2 years, does not walk enough either and not much power...Sale injury concern is slightly higher than Castro rape concern going forward.

The mistake that people make is looking at a guy who is a "bad" fielder and overestimating what that means to the team. Shortstop might have more intanglibles than most positions being in the middle of the field. Jeter's presence has been critical although his defense has not. But even the worst fielder ever is going to make most of the plays and of the ones he doesn't make, many will turn out to be meaningless anyway.

Sale could be great for a decade and he cold also be Mark Prior. Assuming anything beyond the present day with a pitcher is very dangerous.

I feel safe assuming Castro will get at least 185 hits per season for the next 10-15 years.

Lefthanded starting pitching in the #1 commodity in baseball.

The correct answer is Chris Sale.

Solid, proven left handed starting pitching...maybe.

Chris Sale is 2012's version of Erik Bedard.

he's as much that as he is the 2012 version of clayton kershaw

I went there, muhfuh.
Castro is Soriano (when he played infield)...with less power and a worse OBP.

Dont like Castro's game at all. Wouldnt be surprised if Theo doesnt try and dump his overrated rear end if he can. I'll take Sale in a heartbeat.

Sale, even if I do think he will have a career ending injury in the next 3 years and so do the Sox. Thus the constant extra rest.

However, i would have Sale pitch twice in a 7 game WS
