I just don't understand you sometimes. You go absolutely crazy over some minor leaguer but here you are basically saying that MLB is going to catch up to one of the best hitters in all of MLB by watching tape of him.

The point is that there is no reason to believe this is a career year for Abreu because it is his only season in MLB. It may be, but he may very well have been this good at the age of 20. We just don't know. That is it. Rizzo is a having a career year by a pretty substantial margin. He may have a career year next year that surpasses this one. I'm not saying he won't.

This is what gets frustrating in these discussions. I respond to IMU who basically says that this is probably Abreu's career year(at least in terms of home runs) and I simply point out that there is no real evidence that this isn't just a normal year for him and it would be highly unlikely that he just so happened to enter MLB at his absolute peak and I basically get the "Don't talk bad about a Cubs player!" treatment.

We have one full MLB season. That's not at all how you presented it. You actually used the words "any other year" as if there was more than one. Did you think he's been around longer than he has?

Hitting 15 homeruns in half a season, then 23 in your first full season is pretty standard for a young power hitter.

It cant really be a career year in year 2. When it's year 2 you're still formulating the profile.

In any other situation in any sport you wouldnt call a guy improving in his second year a "career year"

What are you arguing? All of these points are even more valid for Abreu since he is in year 1.

It's a simple comparison of who is more likely to be in a career year right now. You seem to want to turn it into me saying that Rizzo will never have a better year than this.

Abreu is one of my favorite hitters in the majors, but I hate that he is number 79. Makes him less cool, IMO.


I voted Rizzo, but mostly because I'm a Cubs fan. Without injury, this will be a fun one to track.

It is though, and he isn't a second year player. His official MLB rookie status indicates that he was a rookie in 2012. Calling him a second year player is literally outright false.

Once again though, you seem to want to make this about whether or not Rizzo will have a better year than this. He probably will. Abreu probably will too.

A Second full season can not be a career year under any circumstances in any sport because it's representing nearly half of the career. You dont know what the regular is.

Well, I originally said that there was a danger of it being his career year.

However, I'm fine with saying that a player in his third season is having a career year. It doesn't mean he won't have one even better eventually. You disagree.
