it seems people think Beane wrote Moneyball, which he did not. It seems other people that Beane "directed" Lewis as he wrote Moneyball. He did not. He gave access, and did some interviews. That's about it. Lewis decided to paint the guy as a savior, not Beane. And as far as the movie, Hollywood is to blame for the deification of Beane.

Have you ever once heard Beane say Lewis got it wrong and give credit to his scouts for landing the pitchers that were barely mentioned in the book?

Reading the book you understand it is practically a love letter to Beane. He describes him in an almost sexual way and that swooning schoolgirl theme continues throughout the book.

The movie made him look like a rube. The cat is actually pretty sharp and has made it past the 1st round.
I just looked it up and he had script approval for the film.

I consider him another one of the more overrated GM in baseball.

He won executive of the year in the same year KW built the White Sox WS winner. Everything KW did that year was gold and he still couldn't get the vote

That is troubling and sad, like choosing to be a Mets fan.

Kenny got hosed but Shapiro still did a pretty good job with that team. They choked hard against the Red Sox in 07 though
