Lebron James has placed himself on two teams built to win now which essentially proves my point about supporting casts being important yet the basketball savants that inhabit this board expect Anthony to win with the collection of bums in New York. If Anthony is such a loser why were people on this board so disappointed when he didn't sign with the Bulls? One guy went from calling him clutch one week to Marshmelo the next all without the benefit of a game being played. There wasn't a person on here that called him out on the obvious hypocrisy and each time I referred to supporting casts being important it was underplayed. I know the chose to resign with the Knicks but in doing so he chose to sign for substantially more than he could have gotten anywhere else. I guess that makes him a fool in this boards eyes. It's interesting that the point about supporting casts being important in winning is conveniently sidestepped on here yet the best player in the game has now placed himself on two teams ready to win now.

Carmelo has chosen his teams just as often. The fact that he has chosen those collection of bums makes this point meaningless.

He chose the money that comes along with playing with these collection of bums but that is conveniently overlooked by those that subscribe to this board. The guy made a decision that others appear to understand but the people here keep neglecting. It's interesting how people here keep referencing the unimportance of money in this yet the person mostly doing it once referenced their w-2 to illustrate the amount of money he made. If the money were equal he would have left New York. It's easy for people that will never be placed in that position to say yeah he is a fool for choosing 40 million over winning. It's simply disingenuous on your part to consistently argue something that everyone aside from a few local types feel is not arguable.

He has picked his team and his teammates twice. It's hard to feel sorry for his situation when he chose it.

Also, there are a ton of examples of players that chose less money for a better shot at winning. We don't even have to mention the Heat. We can start with the Spurs.

What is also convenient is you and others on here keep framing it as though the money involved were equal or similar. What are u practicing a new form of voodoo economics. It wasn't. Your arguments are all too predictable. You either obscure facts or shape arguments that have nothing to do with the actual discussion. It is a neat little trick yet easily refuted. The fact remains that the best record the Knicks have had during the last 15 years has been with Anthony as their best player. That team was garbage before he came in and they have improved with him. This along with other valid points will be conveniently avoided and dissenting opinions will be centered on Anthony bashing or some supposed love that I have Melo the man the myth the legend. Get over yourself

There is not one instance where that type of money was left on the table. I think in the few instances such as the Spurs there is a handshake agreement to overpay once their players are past their prime. Ginobili was considered washed after last season and they paid him about 9 over 3yrs. That probably was related to contributions made to the team during his career

You're arguing for the fact that Carmelo Anthony doesn't have the mindset of someone that wants to win. He doesn't have that edge.

You can display that with the statistics, or you can display that by him choosing to play on teams that cannot win.

If he is such a bum then why did Phil and the Knicks pay him the type of money that will cripple the franchise? Wouldn't it be easier to let him go and rebuild?

It doesn't have anything to do with mindset to win. That is Bernsteinesque sports talk psychoanalysis. The guy simply took the money and ran. He sacrificed winning for money. He made a decision that you and others that keep bashing him would have made if given the choice.

Why have the Knicks done anything they've done in the last 15 years?

Anyway...Carmelo is a draw to casual fans like yourself. He sells tickets and merchandise - and the Knicks would never rebuild.

After the first 100 million, the next couple million seem less important. At some point, I would realize I am a professional basketball player - not many get to be that. And if I had some amount of talent greater than average, I would want to cement myself as one of the all-time greats. There is a legacy that goes beyond money. At this point, Carmelo will always be extremely wealthy. Where will he be 10 years after he retires? With $100M or $120M, the same exact spot. But if he became a winner? No one is going to talk about Rashard Lewis 10 years after he retires.

I wish someone on here would rip off the posts where he was clutch when it appeared he would sign with the Bulls and Marshmelo once it became obvious that he wouldn't. Surprisingly in all the discussions on the subject no one called you on it. Talk about who ya crappin.

Do you know who you're talking to?

I'm the one who made the Deng > Carmelo thread. I'm the one that was against signing Carmelo both times. Wholeheartedly.

And Jameer Nelson will be known as a much better player than T.J. Ford.

Good for all of them. None will be cared about 10 years after their careers.

to illustrate the utter stupidity of your argument how is a future hall of famer which Anthony will be not remembered?

To take it a step further who will be remembered more Steve Kerr or Anthony. Who will be known as the better player Horry or Melo? Winning is important but it's hard to ask a guy to sacrifice that type of money and it always easy when it's not your money being sacrificed

We can start with the best player in basketball. He left $100M on the table this season.

Marshmelo has been a top 4 seed many times and still couldn't advance in the playoffs. Even if you believe his teams weren't championship ready then at least winning a series and playing well shouldn't be too much to ask.

Once again voodoo economics. Lebron James didnt leave 100 million on the table he simply took less yrs. He also gambled that he would not be injured and he knows in two yrs the cap will increase and he will have an opportunity to make more in avg. Salary. I know I screwed the quote function up and let's focus on that rather than the validity of my argument

The Bulls offered Marshmelo the LeBron deal and he said "I need all of my money now". LeBron said "I'll wait 2 years and make even more money". This clearly debunks your argument that no one has left a lot of money on the table. Let's not forget Wade gave back 25% of the remaining balance of his contract $10M this offseason.

Why didn't Carmelo take the same exact deal with another team?

Ultimately, and this is very simple. Carmelo has been in control of his situation since his last year in Utah. There are no excuses for what he is surrounded with because he has chosen twice to stick with it.
