Ill admit I'm the first one to rail about participation trophies and the like but I gotta tell ya, the thought of rogue jr standing at the finish line with tears running down his face after finishing 4th in a race or something is already breaking me up inside and has me wondering what I'm going to buy him to make it better

Kids are small people. Most people are dumb. Therefore, most kids are probably dumb. I think that's fairly accurate.

But if everyone maligns the trophy generation, than who is left to BE the trophy generation?

By then you wont react like that. Yours is still young I think right? It becomes more about building the person and less about coddling as they age.

Then again, what the hell do I know

Tell him he has ruined the family name, and kick dirt on him. He'll thank you eventually.

And yes, people DO act like that.

Did you ever play out of curiosity?

No, not organized football. My dad said no. He was kind of ahead of the curve on all this concussion stuff.

Football (concussions) and Wrestling (yo-yo dieting) were off limits. Everything else was open.

But you're not trying to say that I dont get how special it is right?

I think it is, but I can understand your point of view.

He could have played Fall baseball and has along with football, we like the game and I am not going to take that away from him. There are all kinds of ways to get hurt in any number of sports, I don't necessarily believe all of the propaganda out there.

Well, let me say that I understand it teaches a lot of great lessons, I just dont think those lessons can ONLY be found in football

As a board we can't eat Chicken McNuggets without an emotionally scarring schism, so I'm not sure we need to have a "Let's All Raise Hawger, Jr." thread.

I doubt I'll let me son play football but considering the fact he thinks he's John Cena or a stunt devil he will find many ways to hit his head. I still play tackle football. Got an annual Thanksgiving game to play in a couple weeks. I understand the risk that comes with it but there is a rush that I get from playing football that I don't get playing any other sport. Once you allow a kid to experience that it is hard to take away.

Was that happening though...

...from the quick read I just gave through the last few pages, there is a pretty solid, calm discussion going on between a few people...and then there was some other crap that came out of left field.

As opposed to my usual serious nature, I might not have said it in a completely serious manner.

It's cool, hawg . Didn't mean to sound judgemental or condescending in my post . I personally take the cte stuff seriously . It's substantiated and worth serious consideration in my view, which is what I've given it . Anecdotally, I've heard and read much to suggest parents will in fact steer their children elsewhere when it comes to football

Can't deny the rush and fun of playing, but many seem to be deciding it's not worth the risks .

I'm with you. Granted my son is currently the size of a peach, I don't plan on letting him play football. Nor will he be allowed to root for the Washington football team. No child should be subjected to a lifetime of failure and disappointment.

And I have no problem with that and have never said anything to any parent that has asked me anything to the contrary. I also tell them to let their kids try it if they want to, but they have to love it. It is a extremely hard and demanding game, and not for every kid.

Not specifically, but I know a lot of kids who appear to have CTE.

That is because they argued with Brick.

yes, that's because of the fact that the trophies and ribbons are for the parents, not the kids. as GD correctly pointed out, kids don't care about them. parents do though. they just gotta brag about something...and then DRINK WINE TONIGHT!
