oh shit this is also the last week of the colbert report, which i fell off of watching as appointment TV everyday like ~3-4 years ago, but gradually diminished my watching from "appointment TV" to "most nights" to "a couple times a week" to "meh" ---- and when they announced he was going to CBS next year i told myself that i'd make it a point to watch the last few months, but by and large i just couldn't get myself in front of the TV at 1030 to watch the 1-2 worthwhile segments (cuz who cares about guests?) and now it's the last damn week. last time i watched they did presumably the last esteban colberto / colberto reporto with the CHICAS!!!!! and all that, and that had to be about ~3+ weeks ago right around thanksgiving.
the colbert report was an awesome show for the first half of its run. he used to appeal to more of an "it-getter" demographic and the show had a rapier wit as it'd do things like, example, take on conspiracy ppl when they were talking about the proposed private/toll superhighway that was gonna divide the nation in 2! stephen took it one step further to say this conspiracy had been around forever because THERE'S ROADS.... ROADS EVERYWHERE! and he was really subtle with clever references that rewarded you for being an "it-getter" and etc. as colbert got more popular/established the show got more straightforward and tame, but even in the last few years he still did some cool/fun stuff like make up his own PAC to give us a real-world example of how PACs work for politics, and that's the kind of stuff he always did to vault himself beyond the daily show in terms of being the better show out of the 2 comedy central gave us from 10-11pm.
as for craigy ferg (to actually be on topic for once in my life) his show was one i hardly ever stayed up for to watch (and then even if i was up it was never really in the foreground of my thoughts cuz it was maybe like 1-2 times a year i'd be like "oh yeah craig" and get to it) but holy shit his show was a masterclass in macking celebrity chicks.
kate mara comes to mind as one of many chicks who practically threw themselves at craig and people have gone and compiled some compilation videos showing off his prowess with the wimmenfolk
here and
here. recommended viewing if you wanna see the kind of demeanor requisite for landing actresses and/or high-level/caliber women.
ah well, it sucks to know that two shows i technically like/d (with one being just about my favorite thing on TV from 06-10, the report of course) are gone and stephen colbert's gonna have to take on the tried-n-true LATE NIGHT TALK SHOW FORMAT which will exist until the end of time, or the entertainment industry eschews free promotion for their new stuff and sends the star/s of the movie/show out there to go be "just like us" with the veritable-pimp-for-the-entertainment-industry hosts out there whose jobs exist to draw people in and consume the advertisements for media endeavor X coming out soon! dave letterman's rant about being a pimp for the entertainment industry (while he was interviewing paris hilton, nicole richie, lindsay lohan or somebody of that ilk) was perhaps the last real/vintage moment he had.... but then again i think letterman was basically a 80s thing that you were either there for or not, much like the colbert report was a late-00s thing and conan o'brien was a late 90s thing and etc etc
GODSPEED, GENTLEPEOPLE, GODSPEED! so is craigy ferg just gonna keep on hosting that gameshow and maybe do a few movies? or is he gonna try to get another talk show somewhere since he was basically the best thing going in the format from the middle of his tenure onwards?
